The Lead is responsible for coordinating, implementing and completing, under the direction of the Supervisor or Department Manager, the steps necessary to ensure that department tasks and duties are performed within holding times or schedule, meet appropriate quality and deliverable requirements, are performed efficiently in a cost-effective manner and meet client or project specific requirements. The Lab section Lead is assigned to one or more analytical disciplines in a department. Within that discipline, the lead will oversee production, review data, trouble shoot problems, assist with corrective actions, and provide technical leadership. The lead will support the Supervisor and Department Manager by assisting with client, project manager and business development inquiries.
Salary Range: $22.50-32.50 hourly
Experience: LC/MS/MS method development
Education: Advance degree in chemistry preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary
- Lab Leads provide review and release of analytical results, including evaluation of raw data packages, review of quality control acceptance criteria, to ensure reliable and valid data is generated.
- Schedule reanalysis of samples or resampling or sample pickup when necessary.
- Monitor worklists to minimize missed holding times, rushes and standard TAT (in that order).
- Notify PMs of data, pickup or sampling issues.
- Look for opportunities to improve staff efficiency in processes.
- Look for opportunities to reduce waste in processes.
- Notify PMs of instrument or equipment issues and potential delays with results and/or holding time issues.
- Assists PMs with communication to clients regarding workload and capabilities for the department.
- Notify technical services of any issue other than staffing, affecting production or efficiency.
Secondary:
- Backup analysts or field techs during absence and during peak loads.
- Assists the Supervisor with the training of new employees.
- Provide input to Supervisor and Department Manager on staff performance.
- Makes recommendations to Supervisor as needed, regarding responsibilities, assignments and schedules for department staff to ensure an even distribution of workload.
- Ensures cross-training for all procedures.
Other:
- Reviews and evaluates existing methods and/or procedures, recommends necessary changes, and coordinates with the Department Manager for maintaining production of results.
- Monitors issues for any intrinsic and continuous errors.
- Coordinates with the QA/QC department the performance, review, and corrective action steps to maintain department certifications and compliance with TNI.
- Complete PTs within TAT as applicable.
- Maintains familiarity with the operations of equipment used in the department, and coordinates with Technical Services department for repair, maintenance, and enhancement of equipment.
- Makes recommendations for replacement or upgrades of equipment.
- Follows maintenance schedules and ensures that schedule is met with appropriate records kept in the instrument or vehicle log.
- Ensures that department personnel are familiar with the consumable inventory for the department and submit requests in a timely fashion for supplies.
- Promote good morale and provide an environment of mutual respect within and between departments.

Job Requirements:
- Degree in chemistry or related Science field
- Or 10 Year’s experience with no degree
- Four year’s applicable analytical experience
- Industry or academic certificate as analyst preferred
