North Wind Services is a high-performing, low-risk firm with the experience and qualifications to successfully manage and execute a wide range of technical services, including environmental investigation and restoration, construction, demolition, radioactive and hazardous waste management, public communication and involvement, information management, health and safety/industrial hygiene and emergency response/HAZMAT services.
POSITION PURPOSE:
Seeking a highly qualified Lead Industrial Health Specialist to support work within the Oak Ridge Reservation. The successful candidate will provide expertise in industrial safety and health to ensure compliance with DOE standards and industry best practices. This position is contingent upon contract award.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the development, review, and implementation of industrial safety and health programs across nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
- Ensure compliance with DOE regulations, health and safety standards, and best practices for industrial hygiene and safety.
- Analyze safety programs, identify risks and recommend improvements to enhance facility safety.
- Collaborate with DOE contractor representatives and key stakeholders to develop and evaluate safety programs, technical safety requirements, and risk assessment models.
- Perform site evaluations and audits to assess compliance with industrial health and safety regulations.
- Provide technical leadership and support in the development of health and safety documentation, reports, and technical reviews.
- Oversee and mentor a team of industrial health specialists to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a Q Clearance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related technical field.
- 20 years of experience in the field of industrial safety and health, including 10 years at Oak Ridge sites.
- Expertise in industry standards and DOE standards for Industrial Hygiene and Safety.
- Demonstrated experience in leading safety programs and teams in a DOE or industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of safety-based documentation, hazard categorization, and industrial hygiene programs.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Communication Skills:
- Strong customer service and word processing skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, and collaborate with peers, management, other department personnel, vendors, other contractors, client, and customers at all organizational levels to successfully meet shifting needs.
- Ability to question the status quo and be comfortable with being challenged.
- Ability to write routine and non-routine reports and correspondence.
Reasoning Ability:
- Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
- Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify strategies needed to fix problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, and make and document sound decisions.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and other documents, and deal with abstract and concrete variables. Ability to identify, document and provide corrective recommendations for root cause issues.

- Experience in balancing requirements of and prioritizing activities associated with the successful execution of multiple projects, including ability to consistently meet multiple critical deadlines to meet client and other requirements.
- Ability to adapt and respond effectively to new or changing conditions. Ability to make mathematical calculations with reasonable speed and accuracy.

Special Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain a Q clearance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to sit for part of the day. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and drive.
- The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Manual dexterity abilities required performing calculations using computer or calculator.
- Must be capable of wearing standard personal protective equipment (hard hat, gloves, coveralls, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes) as needed.
