About the role:
As the Lead Maintenance Technician, you will oversee the repair, maintenance, and improvement of Clayton Early Learning's facilities, systems, and equipment, ensuring our campus, buildings, and grounds remain safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. This role requires a proactive approach to managing routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance tasks, with a focus on upholding regulatory standards and safety protocols.
The Lead Maintenance Technician will coordinate daily work orders, oversee the team's activities, and ensure maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards. You will serve as the primary point of contact for complex repairs, collaborating with contractors and managing larger projects when required. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strong communication abilities to foster a supportive, team-focused environment.

What we want you to do:
- Assign work orders to operations team members, including themselves.
- Assist with the upkeep of grounds (including all aspects of landscaping and snow removal)
- Manage vendor relationships and contracts, ensuring that all contractors are meeting their contractual obligations
- Ensures high quality work by researching vendors and obtains multiple bids for major projects
- Responsible for ordering and picking up supplies for the Ops team, including fuel for vehicles.
- Maintenance upkeep for school busses and the Ops van, including repairs and registration
- Responsible for the development, compliance, review and management of the Preventative Maintenance calendar
- Performs monthly building inspections and fixes issues or submits work orders, for all non-tenant buildings
- Responsible for scheduling and performing safety drills for campus buildings (other than the school) Including fire, tornado, evacuation. Partners and participates in these drills with the school. Assist the Dir of Ops with the Lock Down and Lock Out drills.
- Providing strong leadership to staff, teams and volunteers by co-leading, communicating, organizing, developing projects and ensuring proper resources are available
- Daily walk through of Educare building and playground ensuring safety, sanitation issues, proper reporting and follow through for all compliance requirements
- Participate in the on call rotation
- Collaborating and maintaining positive relationships with all Clayton staff, families and tenants
- Completing special projects as assigned by Director of Ops
- Participating in and contributing to budget planning and development
What we are looking for and what you must have:
- At least 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Proven track record of managing maintenance teams and coordinating large-scale repair or maintenance projects.
- Strong leadership abilities, with experience mentoring and training maintenance personnel.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with team members, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to foster a collaborative team environment and handle conflict or performance issues effectively. Ability to lift and move heavy objects and operate power tools and equipment.
- Knowledge and hands on experience completing maintenance tasks, including repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC. Ability to paint and perform minor carpentry.
- Ability to interpret and understand information received.
- Understand and perform basic mathematical computations; use analytical skills for troubleshooting.
- Must know how to use a computer and basic programs such as Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft Word
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage a variety of tasks.
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a diverse audience of individuals and groups.
- Must be able to participate in snow removal and landscaping duties.
- Will operate a variety of equipment and power tools, understands use of heavy machinery and safety; implements stewardship of tools and equipment.
- Successfully pass a background check and any other regulatory screening requirements
- A valid driver license with evidence of vehicle insurance and the ability to get to work at all hours
