About the Job
The Lead Mechanic will ensure the operation of diesel equipment by completing inspections and preventive maintenance, correcting vehicle and trailer deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments and maintaining accurate records. They will oversee the repair and maintenance of the vehicle fleet while assisting in supervising assigned technicians and mechanics.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license.
• Must successfully complete a background check and drug test to ensure compliance with company policies and safety standards.
• Able to work Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM with availability to work Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
• Must be able to work collaboratively with others, assist team members in performing their duties, share the workload and prioritize safety.
• Perform regular maintenance on machines including CAT equipment (forklifts, excavators, material handlers), Bobcat and Liebherr (training and assistance provided), as well as on-road trucks such as Mack, International and Volvo.
• Familiar with company policies and the employee handbook.
• Technical Understanding of Diesel Engines, trailer maintenance and repair.
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail along with effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates strong dependability and reliability in all tasks.
• Possesses accurate inventory control and documentation skills.
Typical Duties
• Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
• Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, completing winterization procedures.
• Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components and systems including power and drive trains, electrical systems, air conditioning, fuel, emissions, brakes, steering and hydraulics. Completes machine shop operations and makes adjustments and alignments for bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches and traction units.
• Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems as necessary.
• Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine performance, safety and combustion control standards.
• Maintains vehicle records by documenting all services and repairs.
• Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, calling for repairs as needed.
