Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Lead Miscellaneous Metals and Structural Steel Estimator to join our team and help build our estimating department. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in leading a team of estimators, developing estimation systems, and implementing strategies to ensure accurate and competitive bids.
Responsibilities:
- Initially your primary focus would be to increase estimate outflow from the company but after a period of time you would be responsible for hiring, developing and overseeing a team of estimators, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure consistent and accurate estimates.
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement estimation systems and processes to ensure efficiency, speed and accuracy in estimating project costs.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to review project specifications, blueprints, and other relevant documents to determine project requirements.
- Analyze project scope, materials, labor, and other factors to prepare comprehensive and competitive bids.
- Review subcontractor and vendor quotes, negotiate pricing, and maintain relationships to secure favorable terms and pricing.
- Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and material costs to accurately estimate project costs and maintain competitiveness.
- Provide accurate and timely estimates for both bid and negotiated projects, meeting deadlines and exceeding client expectations.
- Assist in the development of project budgets and schedules, providing valuable insights and recommendations to support project success.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business or related field is preferred but by no means required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in miscellaneous metals and structural steel estimation, with a demonstrated track record of success in leading a team of estimators.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and blueprints.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to accurately calculate material quantities, labor costs, and project expenses.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with estimation software and the ability to learn/develop/implement new software.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
- Detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment and lead by example.
