About the Job
Our client, a retail chain of home improvement and agriculture stores, is seeking a Lead Network Engineer for a 6+ month contract-to-hire position in Brentwood, TN. This role is hybrid, onsite two days a week.

- Drive updates and communication till resolution
- Communicate Status and Lead IC and Contractor team for large technology deployments
- Lead effort to document standard operational process for new technology.
- Lead process creation and execution for complex technology installations
- Learn, understand, and drive new architectures and standards associated with all company architecture.
- Organize and Participate in Project design and organization with PMO
- Help delegate functional project work to Engineer/Senior Engineer team.
- On assigned projects act as technical project manager working closely with project managers to build project plan, objectives, definition of done.
- Train and socialize new processes and technologies to peers and internal support team.
- Write and publish Knowledge base articles for internal and external troubleshooting and configuration processes.
- Review and approve KB articles written by other team members.
- Lead Team training in specialized areas of network work for other team members
- Work with other support teams to identify process gaps
- Work with other support teams to identify technology gaps
- Actively develop and lead relationships cross-departmentally
- Have visibility and contribute strategically to support roadmap.
- Represent networking at change and architecture review boards.
- Lead communication efforts with leadership on high priority trouble issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication ability at a leadership level.
- Participate in organizing support team for larger initiatives
- Participate in Strategy and Architectural Design Sessions
- Be able to answer leadership questions about network design and operation
- Work with equipment vendors to determine product roadmaps, software bugs, and device lifecycle needs
- Work with circuit carriers to improve capacity, redundancy and resiliency
- Work closely with architects to drive improvements to our network reliability
- Work with all networking engineers to explain projects, teach and assist with resolving chronic problems
- Define documentation standards
- Document and create repeatable resolutions to common problems
- Manage the process to socialize resolutions with lower support tiers
- Create and approve Knowledge Base Articles to socialize with Help desk and IT Operations
- Create in depth Network Documentation and Architectural network diagrams
- Write Standard Procedures for support team to work from
- Write and publish standard architecture/Golden Configs
- Regular rotation for on call after hours and weekend
- Ability to provided escalated on-call support for all networking issues (store, DC, datacenter, cloud)
- Lead P1 Troubleshooting bridge, delegate support tasks and information gathering for this purpose.
- Participate in Day 2 Change support
- Execute change initiatives in all areas of network presence
- Expert Level Network Route Switch Knowledge
- OSI Layer Understanding/TCP Stack understanding
- Understanding of Common Protocols
- BGP Advanced (IBGP, Prefixes, Prefix lists, communities, traffic engineering & Route Propagation, EVPN for Vxlan environment)
- OSPF Advanced (Distance Vector, LSA Fundamentals, Area types, traffic engineering, Route Tables)
- MPLS/LDP Advanced (LSPs, synchronization, link state database)
- Fluent reading and understanding of Juniper & Cisco Configurations
- Ability to create/edit basic router & Switch Configurations without the use of a template
- Ability to peer review all network changes
- VXLAN spine/leaf architecture
- Define standards in collaboration with entire team
- Responsible for proof-of-concept lab testing and validation in support of change/project objectives in collaboration with stakeholders
- Define best practices

- Expert understanding of Routing protocols

- SDWan vendor Specific Knowledge (Palo Alto CloudGenix)
- Understand the specifics of CloudGenix configuration
- Ability to make unscripted intentional Configuration adjustment
- Functional understanding of Store and DC SDWan Architecture
- Complete understanding of store and DC SDWan Architecture
- Define best practices
- Understanding of Azure cloud networking concepts
- Ability to deploy new networks/subnets in Azure
- Provide networking support to firewall, load balancer and server teams
- Raise network reliability concerns to leadership and architects
- Monitor network capacity trends and recommend needed augments
- Lead holiday readiness as it pertains to networking
- Understanding of platform configuration standard
- Understanding of Voice Specific Protocols and how they travers our network
- Senior level understanding of store Wireless Vendor Technology (Aruba)
- Functional understanding of Store AP architecture
- Ability to make unscripted intentional Wireless Configuration Adjustments
- Ability to process standard configurations and suggest changes for specific outcomes
- Ability to perform in depth troubleshooting and escalation of wireless issues.
- Functional understanding of DC Wireless Architecture.
