Description
As the Lead Propulsion Design Engineer, you will lead the team in the design, development, build, test, and analysis of a high-performance electric propulsion system. You will be overseeing in the design of all sub-subsystems, including critical thruster components, the propellant management system, structural components, ground support equipment, and much more.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Leadership: Lead the design and development of advanced propulsion systems, including engines, thrusters, and propellant systems. Ensure designs meet mission requirements and industry standards.
- Project Management: Manage propulsion engineering projects, including defining project scope, timelines, resources, and budgets. Monitor progress and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
- Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate propulsion systems into spacecraft and satellite platforms. Ensure compatibility with other systems and components.
- Testing and Validation: Develop and execute test plans for propulsion systems. Conduct performance and reliability testing to validate system functionality and compliance with specifications.
- Analysis and Optimization: Perform detailed analysis of propulsion system performance. Identify areas for improvement and implement optimization strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of propulsion engineers. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, providing guidance and support to team members.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and technical manuals. Ensure all documentation is accurate and compliant with company standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Propulsion Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 4+ years of experience in propulsion engineering, with significant experience in designing and developing propulsion systems for aerospace or space technology sectors.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of propulsion system design, including liquid and solid rocket engines, thrusters, and propellant systems. Proficiency with engineering tools and software for design and simulation (e.g., MATLAB, ANSYS).
- Project Management: Experience managing complex engineering projects, including defining scope, timelines, and resources. Ability to ensure projects meet quality and performance standards.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Must be able to obtain a Secret and/or a TS/SCI clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Propulsion Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in propulsion engineering, with extensive experience in the aerospace or space technology sectors. Experience with spacecraft propulsion systems is a plus.
- Advanced Skills: Expertise in advanced propulsion technologies, including high-performance engines, in-space propulsion, and propulsion system integration. Familiarity with cutting-edge testing and validation techniques.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in propulsion engineering or project management (e.g., PMP) are a plus.
- Industry Experience: Extensive experience working in aerospace or space technology sectors, including understanding of the unique requirements and challenges associated with propulsion systems for space missions.
- Innovation: Proven track record of driving innovation in propulsion system design and implementation, contributing to the development of next-generation space technologies.
