Center for Life Management (CLM) provides the area's most comprehensive array of outpatient mental health services. Our multi-disciplined treatment team provides a variety of evidence-based services and best practices to assist individuals with overcoming severe and persistent mental illness and barriers to independent living. Specifically, CLM’s Residential Housing Program offers 24/7 supportive housing as an alternative to hospitalization or emergency room boarding during acute psychiatric episodes. The Lead Residential Counselor works closely with Jean’s Place House Manager and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a residential program during their assigned shift. This role involves supervising staff, ensuring the safety and well-being of guests, and coordinating activities and services in line with program goals and policies. This is a full time, 35 hour per week position.

Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties

• Team Supervision: Lead and supervise a team of residential staff during assigned shifts. Provide guidance, support, and feedback to ensure effective performance and adherence to policies and works with Jean’s Place manager to ensure staff coverage 24/7;
  • Provides covering supervising tasks when Jean’s Place Housing Management is not working;
    • Be a role model and inspire recovery by instilling hope, building trust, demonstrating empathy, being present, and listening to guest’s needs to set housing goals, collaborate on care, answer questions about and foster engagement in treatment;
    • Promote responsibility, effective decision making, active participation in treatment and recovery processes;
    • Assess and encourage guests to seek a higher level of care in the event that supportive residential housing becomes insufficient to ensure guest health and safety (to include but not limited to assisting contact with acute care and mobile crisis services or fulfilling a crisis assessment at a local hospital or health care center);
    • Link guest and/or natural supports with appropriate community mental health resources that best fit the presenting problems as well as level of motivation and stage of change;
    • Maintain contact with guests for a set period of time after a crisis to ensure connection has been made with agreed upon referral sources and additional education/supports;
• Ensure the safety, well-being, and engagement of residents. Address any immediate concerns or issues related to resident care;
• Implement program activities and schedules as planned, adapting as necessary to meet the needs of residents;
• Act as the primary point of contact between residents, staff, and other stakeholders. Facilitate clear and effective communication within the team and with residents;
• Respond to emergencies and manage crisis situations in accordance with established procedures. Ensure appropriate documentation and reporting;
• Provide on-the-job training and support to new staff;
• Assist with ongoing staff development and performance evaluations;
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to resident care, incidents, and staff activities. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards;
• Ensure that all program operations are in compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies;
• Identify areas for improvement in program delivery and staff performance:
  • Participate in program evaluations and contribute to the development of strategies for enhancement;
  • Promoting a positive environment and culture that fosters cooperation, teamwork, professional growth and development to benefit staff, guests, families, and community partners;
  • Engage in appropriate consultation meetings and committees, both internally and externally, as determined by supervisor;
  • Function professionally and in a manner that protects the integrity, confidentiality and rights of all guests;
  • Execute all required services and documentation in accordance with agency policies and federal/state standards;
  • Maintain professional memberships, licenses, accreditation, certifications, etc.;
  • Adhere to CLM’s Code of Conduct and professional ethics;
  • Represent CLM in a professional and appropriate manner in all settings;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills

• Associate's degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field (or equivalent experience);
• Previous experience in residential care or a similar setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role;
• Strong leadership and team management skills;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities;
• Ability to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively;
• Relevant certifications or training (e.g., first aid, CPR) may be required;
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills required to interact with clients, families, staff and visitors in a professional manner;
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational skills, ability to problem solve, multi-task, and manage competing tasks while attending to details and adhering to deadlines;
• Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in routine, urgent, and emergent administrative tasks;
• Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office applications with emphasis on Word, Excel, Outlook and TEAMS;
• Ability and desire to work as part of a team while also able to be self-directed and motivated with minimal supervision;
• Flexibility to adapt schedule and fill in as needed;
• Ability to acquire and effectively execute new skills as needed according to evolving department needs;

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The work will also be performed in settings guest residences and community depending on the task, treatment objective, and/or intervention. The ability to actively engage with clients and conduct some physical activity as well as the ability to manage stressful situations. The ability to sit, stand, and climb stairs for extended periods of time is required. Reliable transportation, a clean driving record, and proof of auto insurance coverage is required.

The Center for Life Management has partnered with New England College to offer a Master’s Degree! This is an exciting opportunity for CLM staff to earn a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MS) degree in 3 years. 

Who’s Eligible and What’s Required:

• Must be a regular, full-time CLM employee in good standing for 9 months or more.
• Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree.
• Must agree to a five (5) year commitment of full-time employment in good standing with the Center for Life Management (beginning from start date/year of Professional Development Program participation).
• Participants must maintain a B average to continue participation in the program.
