About the Job
We are seeking a Lead Splunk Engineer to join our team supporting our Internal Revenue Service (IRS) client. The Splunk Engineer will provide cyber-focused Splunk subject matter expertise in supporting security enablement and accountability through Splunk development, dashboarding and data visualization. The Splunk Engineer will work closely with government personnel and other Maximus professionals in a team environment.
Location of work is remote in US.
*Position is contingent on funding.
- Provide support for design, development, unit test, deployment, installation, configuration, integration, operation, and maintenance of IRS systems, applications and tools.
- Provide technical expertise in enhancement of the Splunk architecture to meet user demand.
- Operate and maintain infrastructure and Splunk application monitoring tools as part of the IRS Cybersecurity, network, and application audit and monitoring program.
- Administer the Splunk application infrastructure, including implementing the access control, data segmentation, and general Splunk infrastructure.
- Build design documentation for deploying advanced network access control given a baseline understanding of current tools deployed and the implementation status of each tool.
- Perform on-boarding of new data sources in Splunk through analysis of anomalies and trends.
- Build and integrate contextual data into notable events and provide reports on the data usage.
- Perform tuning of data streams, use cases, and data onboarding and normalization.
- Deploy and maintain dashboards, reports, alerts, as well as Splunk applications, technology add-ons, and Common Information Model.
- Work to solve unique problems across a variety of use cases within Splunk.
- Provide technical and administrative direction relative to the problem.
- Share best practices and create innovative solutions to push user adoption and maximize the value of Splunk.
- Recommend innovative solutions to management and key stakeholders.
- Provide insights with respect to the availability and applicability of new products and features.
- Gather requirements, plan, propose, and execute deployment tasks to successful closure.
- Provide status reports, attend meetings and take/distribute minutes.
PROJECT SPECIFIC MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
-Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required. An additional four (4) years of related experience may substitute for degree.
- 7-10 years of relevant experience.
- At least 3 years of professional working experience with Splunk and experience in the design, development, integration, testing, and implementation of large-scale analytical data sets in Splunk.
- Knowledge of Federal information security policies, standards, procedures, directives, and risk management processes including NIST and Common Information Model (CIM) data standards.
- Proven ability to work on and with many development teams that are dispersed across geographical sites. Experience using online communication tools such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom or similar.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to work well independently or in a team setting.
Additional Requirements, as per Contract/Client:
- Candidates must meet requirements to obtain and maintain an IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) clearance (active IRS Moderate Risk MBI clearance is a plus).
- Candidates must be a US Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident (Green Card status) for 3 years, and be Federal Tax compliant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the systems requirements and specifications gathering, review and verification processes.
- Translate business requirements into system specifications and functional designs.
- Support and Actively contribute to the elaboration and execution of the various test strategies applicable to the systems projects.
- Review and monitor execution and completion of system processes.
- Establish and perform quality reviews of process outputs.
- Perform activities required to produce system documentation (e.g., design specifications, user manuals) and provide end user training as needed.
- Serve as the point of contact and client interface for data and functional analysis.
- Participate in project meetings to represent MAXIMUS in addressing needs of the client and other project stakeholders participate in systems testing activities.
- Work with stakeholders in defining solution to business problem or change request.
- Prepare system documentation, such as functional specifications, release notes.
- Perform duties in conjunction with above requirements such as status reports, team meetings.
- Review and provide feedback on deliverables such as system requirements specifications and test cases.
- Implement process improvement by creating documentation and training Team members on technical and functional processes.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards.
