Job Description

The Lead Surgical Technologist/Materials Manager will assist in the orientation and continuing education of all technical staff in the perioperative area by assisting with the implementation of all policies and procedures of the facility. The individual contributes to establishing and maintaining a safe environment for patients under the direction of a registered nurse. The candidates possess knowledge of the theory and application of sterile tools as well as familiarity with human anatomy and surgical procedures, while providing an uninterrupted flow of supplies and equipment to support all clinical within the ambulatory surgery center. The position requires routine maintenance of inventory of raw goods within a timely and accurate fashion.

• Prepares surgical suite, supplies and equipment to ensure environmental safety and infection control for personnel and patients; provides patient care and assistance with patient relocation and surgery room cleanliness and organization.
• Selects and prepares necessary supplies and equipment for each surgical procedure.
• Verifies exposure to a sterilization process and integrity of sterile packaging. Open supplies aseptically.
• Establish and maintain sterile field.
• Checks all equipment and supplies for working order and take stock of inventory.
• Identifies principles and demonstrates techniques of disinfection, sterilization, and environmental control measures. 
• Adheres to facility policies and procedures. 
• Meets the needs of each patient and surgeon. 
• Identified breaks in aseptic technique and corrects and/or reports it to the proper authority.
• Prepares and aware of specific uses of all needed equipment and supplies. 
• Continually maintains a neat and orderly sterile field as dictated by the sequence of procedures.
• Passes instruments to surgeon; adheres to the needs of surgeons. 
• Appropriately prepares all specimens for laboratory analysis. 
• Participates in counting procedures per established policy. 
• Assists registered nurse with patient preparation and transfer to PACU.
• Participate in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee (QAPI).
• Assists the surgeon in performing the surgical procedure, anticipating the surgeon’s instrument and procedural needs; safely carries out physician’s orders accurately and promptly.
• Coordinates with facility administrator on orientation of technical staff.
• Consider best price, quality, availability, and reliability when purchasing products. 
• Arrange for safe transport of equipment
• Ensure materials and parts in the supply chain meet the minimum requirements for quality assurance standards. 
• Test materials and parts. 
• Place purchase orders. 
• Develop policies and procedures in the areas of procurement, inventory control, receiving, storage and distribution, of supplies throughout the center. 
• Interface directly with all departments in the surgical center with regards to materials that have been requested to a certain specification and need. 
• Maintain adequate supply levels throughout the Surgical Center. 
• Follow established safe practices for receiving hazardous substances. 
• Coordinate productive hours, space, equipment, and expense as they relate to materials department. 
• Performs other duties as requested by management
• Travels to facilities on need be basis. 
• Performs additional duties assigned by management.

Requirements:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification 
• High School Diploma or equivalent 
• Graduated from an accredited surgical technologist training program with subsequent certification in surgical technology –Optional 
• Previous 1–2-year ASC or hospital experience as a Surgical Technician required.
• Previous 1-2 years ASC or hospital experience in Materials Maintenance. 
• Department of Justice Background Check 
• Satisfactory Completion of Health/Drug Screening 
• Proof legal US work eligibility 
• Valid Transportation 
• Valid CA Class C Driver License

Skills and Qualifications:

• Demonstrates effective usage of time and ability to prioritize.
• Ability to correlate clinical data with patient’s medical condition 
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Strong attention to detail.
• General understanding of medical supply equipment.
• Ability to communicate well with physicians, patients, co-workers, and surgeons 
• Ability to work within a team
