Following 9/11, the community and civic planning process that resulted in the World Trade Center master plan in 2003 envisioned a new performing arts center as one of the anchors of the site. The Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) opened in the Fall of 2023 realizing that plan and becoming the new home for emergent and established artists in theater, dance, music, opera, and multi-disciplinary performance from New York and the world in downtown Manhattan.

The role:
PAC NYC is seeking a Lead Technician with a focus in Sound. In conjunction with Management and the Crew Captain, the Lead Technician is responsible for ensuring that all productions are presented seamlessly and of the highest quality. The Lead Technician will be integral in the planning, staffing, and logistics of load in, tech, and changeovers for events and productions onsite. The Lead Technician is a full working position and may also run performances at PAC NYC.

The Lead Technician must be a strategic thinker and creative problem solver. The ideal candidate will be excited to support the expansive vision of PAC NYC and make best use of its uniquely flexible facility.
Your key responsibilities:
- Lead, plan, develop, and implement all aspects of production work in the Lead Technician's area of responsibility including load in, load out, logistics, and technical problem solving.
- As assigned, advance productions and review riders to ensure efficient and effective use of labor, materials, and other resources.
- Review technical drawings and coordinate use of shared resources, including airspace, in-house equipment, and inventory across venues and productions.
- For performances that require rental of instruments, musical gear, or other backline equipment, participate in communication with musicians and collaborate with production management on the coordination of rentals
- Collaborate with PAC NYC artistic team and external artists, designers, and producers to help them realize the most creative and highest quality work specifically created for PAC NYC's unique spaces.
- In conjunction with Management and the Crew Captain, staff crew calls as required in accordance with PAC NYC's equity and inclusion goals.
- Work with PM/TD staff to create staff training plans and ensure adherence to health and safety standards.

- Work hours for this position will vary greatly from day to day and week to week. g. Lead Technicians must be available to work during matinee, evening, and weekend performance hours.
What it takes to be successful in the role:
- At least 3-5 years of leadership experience in the field of Technical Theater
- Can demonstrate a high level of expertise in theatrical sound.
- Can demonstrate a working knowledge of video and rigging.
- Expert level knowledge of stagecraft and best practices.
- Recent, successful experience of hiring and leading multi-disciplinary crews on large-scale events and productions.
- Excellent communication and intermediary skills in working with management, supervisors, and colleagues both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to conceive, strategize, manage, and prioritize between multiple projects, with accuracy and attention to detail.
Our ideal candidate will also possess:
- Experience with reconfigurable theatre spaces
- Experience creating operating paradigms, systems, processes, and procedures for a new facility, organization, or performance space.
- Experience with Stage automation systems.
- Understanding of data networks as typically used in stage applications.
- A thorough working knowledge of multiple scales and forms of performance: including opera, theater, dance, music, and special events.
- Knowledge of theatrical and OSHA safety regulations and practices. If not OSHA 30 Certified, willingness to become so at PAC expense upon hire.
- Expertise with various software programs including d&b audiotechnik ArrayCalc as well as R1, Vectorworks, AutoCAD (both 2D and 3D drafting) MS Office Suite, Dropbox, Slack, and Zoom.
- Enthusiasm for learning new techniques, increasing competency with current industry practices, and expanding problem-solving skills.
Work Environment
PAC NYC is a multistory building with work taking place on all levels, not all of which are accessible via elevator. The Lead Technician will work at height on catwalks, genie lifts, and/or ladders during load in, load out, and when troubleshooting. This position also requires comfort working in low light conditions. The Lead Technician will be part of the moving, installing, and removing of theatrical equipment throughout the building. Must be able to carry 50lbs individually, or heavier objects as part of a team lift. This position requires night and weekend work, particularly during tech and performances. It may require local travel for rental prep or shop builds.

This is an hourly, non-exempt, benefited position paying $52.28 / hour.
