RESPONSIBLE FOR: At Coburn’s Exclusive, Lead Welder/Fabricator is the person who ensures the Welding/Fabricating team is on task, completing projects according to process standards, customer timeframes, and quality guidelines, all while adhering to safety regulations. The Lead Welder/Fabricator stands in for the Shop Manager as needed. This is a working supervisory role, with the expectation that the Lead Welder/Fabricator spends a majority percentage of time fabricating, completing other tasks as needed.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: The Lead Welder/Fabricator differs from the other levels in that this level includes some supervisory and advisory responsibilities. The Lead Welder/Fabricator has material and supply inventory duties apart from the duties of the other levels. It is expected that the Lead Welder/Fabricator spends a significantly larger percentage of time fabricating than the Shop Manager, but not as much as the other Welder/Fabricator levels. Further, there are training duties associated with this level of Welder/Fabricator.
SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE JOB:
- The Lead Welder/Fabricator will fabricate and assemble architectural metal structures using welders, cutters, shapers, and measuring instruments according to drawings and specifications in the determined time frame. It is expected that a Welder/Fabricator of this class is able to move the structure through all stages of fabrication, including preparation, precise layout, jig making, cutting, etc. to the final stages of completion, maintaining time constraints, quality standards and safety regulations.
- The Lead Welder/Fabricator is able to read and interpret diagrams, sketches, and blueprints to determine operations, required materials, and time frames for projects, with an advanced level of proficiency.
- The Lead Welder/Fabricator should be able to use multiple welding and fabrication machines and tools. It is expected that a Welder/Fabricator of this class is able to use and maintain all fabrication equipment, and maintain all safety protocols, with an advanced level of proficiency.
- The Lead Welder/Fabricator assists the Shop Manager in ensuring production goals are met. This requires supervision of the other Welder/Fabricator levels ensuring that standard processes are followed, quality standards are maintained, and all while meeting deadlines, and upholding safety regulations.
- The Lead Welder/Fabricator assists the Shop Manager in communicating supply and material needs to the appropriate personnel. This involves appropriate planning and communication so that production is not ever interrupted, or delayed.
- The Lead Welder/Fabricator is responsible for assessing the training needs of the team, conferring with the Shop Manager and HR personnel, and implementing the training needed according to the assessments. This includes the training of new employees, training on new equipment, and remedial training as needed for all levels of Welder/Fabricators.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABILITIES: These functions are performed on a regular basis unless otherwise specified.
- Ability to sit, stand, grasp, type, stoop, reach, walk, push, and pull for sustained periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to read, calculate, measure, plan, and compile information.
- Ability to investigate, organize, explain, and present information.
- Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form in English on a daily basis.
- Ability to make rational decisions.
- Ability to accept direction and orders from supervisor and others in authority.
- Ability and willingness to accept and follow through on recommendations for improvement as a result of performance appraisal, monitoring, self-assessment, and daily supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS RELATED TO WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis to, but not limited to, local, state, and national destinations. Travel methods may include personal or company vehicle, box truck, airplane, or train.
- Ability to use your own vehicle for work related activities when company vehicles are not available.
- Ability to work and drive during periods of inclement weather.
- Ability to effectively interact and work cooperatively as a team member with people from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments including, but not limited to, workshops, offices, warehouses, storage units, box trucks and public places.
