Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President for Resource Development, the Leadership and Planned Giving Officer, in partnership with the CEO and VP for RD, is responsible for creating and implementing the major giving and planned giving programs at Aeon. The Leadership and Planned Giving Officer is a key catalyst for ensuring the organization's culture, systems and procedures to support leadership-level philanthropy from individual donors for Aeon.
Position Responsibilities
The Leadership and Planned Giving Officer will have primary responsibility for creating and growing a major gifts program with the goal of securing leadership annual gifts and special gifts. This position will also have primary responsibility for establishing and building a Planned Giving program. The Leadership and Planned Giving Officer will expand Aeon's major donor base/pipeline and work closely with the CEO, VP for RD, and Fund Development Manager in identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts. The Leadership and Planned Giving Officer is responsible for the following:
Program Establishment:
- Develop and implement a major giving program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors and securing long-term support of the organization; ensure appropriate prospect research along with meaningful cultivation, acknowledgement and recognition programs.
Portfolio Management:
- Manage a portfolio of prospects; facilitate active relationships with assigned prospects, matching Aeon's funding needs with prospects' interests.
- Identify and qualify prospects through formal discovery process; cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned gifts to meet or exceed individual and team gift goals set annually; demonstrate moves management best practice and work closely with Fund Development Manager and Fund Development Assistant to track, evaluate, and prioritize donor prospects.
Reporting and Data Management:
- Develop individual, written and personalized strategies for each donor prospect, documenting campaign target amounts, annual proposal amounts and key dates;
- Complete timely and accurate contact reports; maintain accurate and relevant records within the database.
Teamwork and Collaboration:
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of Aeon's funding priorities; work creatively to match donor interests with organizational priorities. Where appropriate, engage the CEO and other team members in deepening and advancing donors' relationships with Aeon.
- Collaborate with internal partners to achieve strategic, coordinated communication with all stakeholders in the relationship-building process.
- Work closely with the CEO, VP for RD, Fund Development Manager, staff, volunteers, and donors to identify and build lasting relationships with prospective major donors.
- Assist donors and internal colleagues with planning and hosting donor events as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated success and track record in major gift cultivation and solicitation, or equivalent strategic selling;
- Knowledge of estate planning, including wills, trusts and estate and gift tax laws;
- Ability to construct, articulate, and implement an annual strategic development plan and breakthrough goals related to Major Giving and Planned Giving;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships;
- Strong organizational and planning skills; time management skills;
- Flexible and adaptive style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives;
- A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to coach and develop other leaders;
- High energy and passion for Aeon's mission;
- Service orientation and focus; ethical, trustworthy and credible.
