Overview
The Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education (TDTE) at Utah State University (USU) is seeking two (2) full-time, dynamic, knowledgeable, and experienced candidates for two faculty positions as a Lecturer or Professional Practice Assistant Professor, Behind the Wheel - CDL, at the USU Eastern Campus in Price, Utah. This position is a non-tenure track, fiscal-year (twelve-month) appointment.
The role assignment is 95% teaching and 5% service.
Estimated start date is August 1, 2023.
Responsibilities
This individual will be responsible for providing behind-the-wheel training involving the actual operation of a commercial motor vehicle by a student (entry-level driver). The two individuals will follow current program curriculum, Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations, and will coordinate instruction with all trucking program personnel. The two individuals will be responsible for training students how to safely drive Class A, semi-tractor-trailer, commercial motor vehicles with non-synchronized manual transmissions, fifth wheel coupling, single trailers of up to 53 feet and possibly double belly dump trailers. The following are specific responsibilities:
* Conduct demonstrations of driving operations to students
* Ensure all students are operating equipment safely and within university policy
* Supervise assigned students and provide documentation of student attendance and training records, including administering skills evaluations
* Provide in-person instruction on daily basis to students in the following areas:
* Learner permit (Laws and Regulations)
* Pre-trip Inspection (Maintenance)
* Basic Control Skills (Dump and Trailering, Backing skills)
* Road Driving (Behind the Wheel)
* Ensure Program vehicles are fueled
* Provide minor maintenance of vehicles
* Process paperwork for the ELDT (computer skills)
* Assist with theory instruction as needed

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for Lecturer
* Holds a valid CDL Class A license
