Legal Assistant - Berman & Simmons, P.A.

Berman & Simmons, a leading personal injury law firm, is seeking a Legal Assistant to join our dynamic and compassionate team. Our practice specializes in advocating for the seriously injured and survivors of sexual abuse. We are looking for a trauma-informed professional to help us continue delivering justice for these clients.

As a Legal Assistant at Berman & Simmons, you will manage civil litigation cases from intake through trial, playing a critical role in supporting attorneys and ensuring that our clients receive the best possible representation. Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct searches of electronic file and online content, and assist in gathering documentation to support attorneys.
• Prepare and file form-based legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and correspondence.
• Organize and maintain both physical and electronic case files to ensure smooth case management.
• Schedule and coordinate meetings, depositions, and court appearances.
• Communicate with clients, witnesses, and other involved parties in a professional and trauma-informed manner.
• Perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, managing office supplies, and ensuring efficient office operations to support the firm's success.

Required Skills and Experience:

• A compassionate, trauma-informed approach when interacting with clients who are survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence, or other traumas.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with a focus on managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Aptitude for technology, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research or case management software.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or administrative/executive assistant.
• A bachelor's degree (equivalent experience and education will be considered).
• Experience in a legal or law firm setting is helpful but not required.
• Advanced degrees or professional credentials are welcome.

Other Details:

• Pay: $25.00 / hour
• Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:45pm
• Location: Lewiston, Maine. In office until training is complete, after which hybrid work is optional.
