NexMetro is an innovative real estate developer that is revolutionizing how consumers think about housing. We are seeking to hire a Legal Counsel with a focus on real estate and finance transactions. This position is open to both experienced candidates and recent law graduates who demonstrate a strong interest in these areas.
The position will be located in Phoenix, AZ at our corporate office. The Legal Counsel will be part of the Company's legal team and report to the Associate General Counsel and will work closely with acquisition, development, asset management, accounting, finance, and tax professionals within the company and with outside third-party professionals. The role will involve assisting with real estate investments and related documents, such as purchase and sale agreements, loan documents, construction agreements, and property management agreements, and assisting with the closing of real estate and finance transactions. This position will have broad exposure to a breadth of work and involvement across various real estate and finance transactions. NexMetro is one of the nation's largest single-family rental community developers, specializing in building communities for consumers seeking a home that rents like an apartment but lives like a single family house. NexMetro develops single family rental communities marketed under the name Avilla Homes. Avilla neighborhoods combine the benefits of luxury residential single-family living with the convenience, flexibility, and professional on-site management of a Class A apartment community. The result is a new residential hybrid housing option, detached single story homes in prime suburban locations that are highly differentiated from traditional rental products. Summary of Responsibilities:
- Support the company by reviewing, analyzing, drafting language and documents, and communicating legal matters for a broad range of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, financings, construction, leasing operations, and dispositions.
- Coordinate with various internal departments and with outside third-party professionals, such as attorneys, title companies, lenders, and consultants.
- Review property due diligence and support the transaction closing process, including preparation of closing abstracts and closing binders.
- Prepare notices, letters, filings, applications, checklists, certificates, legal correspondence, and other related documents.
- Manage and ensure compliance with contractual critical dates and obligations.
- Prepare and review corporate organizational and formation documents.
- Work on special assignments that may require conducting fact or legal research and preparing memoranda, reports, and summaries.
- Manage certain standard company agreements, such as a Master Services Agreements.
- Support the company's risk mitigation activities, including insurance and claim management.
- Organize and maintain legal documents in an electronic filing system.
Summary of Ideal Qualifications:
- JD and membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
- Preferred experience in commercial or multi-family real estate, finance, land use, and/or corporate transactions. We also encourage applications from recent law graduates and junior candidates who demonstrate a strong interest in these areas.
- Knowledge of real estate and finance terminology and real estate and finance documents.
- Ability to analyze and resolve legal matters and develop appropriate solutions to enable the organization to achieve company objectives.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills with others at all levels in the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet key deadlines, and have exceptional organizational skills in a fast paced environment.
- Capacity to learn new substantive legal topics as needed.
