JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the professional staff, provides assistance to patrons in locating library materials and information. May provide a specialized function in a branch or central library unit. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.
- Interacts with library patrons to assist them in selecting materials or meeting informational needs.
- Explains the use of reference sources such as bibliographic indexes or computer assisted reference tools.
- Searches catalog, databases and print sources to answer patron inquiries.
- Assists with collection development and maintenance.
- Plans and conducts tours and programs.
- Assembles and arranges displays and bibliographies of books and other library materials.
- Assists and/or instructs other employees with their duties.
- Performs database maintenance.
- Develops, performs and/or manages youth services programming.
- Plans and performs school visits and other outreach activities.
- Catalogs and classifies library materials such as books, audiovisual materials, etc.
- Provides bibliographic control using MARC Records.
- Creates records, changes holding, using an automated system.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field. Transcripts are required at the time of application.
- One year job related experience. Relevant experience working with children in groups is preferred.
- Computer skills.
- Good verbal and written communication including interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.
- Organizational skills and the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
- Requires evening and weekend work.
SALARY RANGE: $17.60 - $22.00 per hour based on qualifications
