About the Job
LAC Federal is seeking a qualified and motivated Library Technician to join our team in Bethesda, MD. This full-time, permanent position offers an opportunity to support essential library operations and services in a dynamic and prestigious environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cataloging and Classification: Assist in cataloging and classifying library materials using established guidelines and systems such as MARC and OCLC.
- Database Management: Conduct bibliographic searches and update library databases to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.
- Circulation Management: Oversee circulation desk activities, including checking in and out materials, assisting patrons with locating resources, and managing patron accounts.
- Reference and Research Support: Provide reference and research assistance to library users, guiding them in the use of library resources and answering their queries.
- Collection Maintenance: Maintain and organize library collections, ensuring materials are properly shelved and easily accessible.
- Exhibits and Displays: Assist in the preparation and setup of library exhibits and displays to highlight collections and resources.
- Interlibrary Loan Services: Handle interlibrary loan requests by processing, tracking, and returning materials in a timely manner.
- Digital Projects Support: Assist with digital library projects, including scanning and digitizing materials for online access.
- Outreach Activities: Support library outreach initiatives, including conducting workshops and instructional sessions for patrons.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of library equipment and technologies.
Requirements
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: At least two years of experience working in a library setting.
Skills:
- Proficiency with library cataloging systems (e.g., MARC, OCLC).
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and library management software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patrons.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate’s degree or higher in Library Science or a related field.
Experience: Previous experience in a medical or academic library setting.
Skills:
- Familiarity with digital library technologies and digital archiving practices.
- Experience with interlibrary loan systems (e.g., ILLiad).
- Knowledge of medical and health-related databases and resources.
- Ability to conduct instructional sessions and library orientations.
