What You'll Do
- Administer nursing care within the scope of practice as outlined in section 4723.01 to 4723.40 of the Ohio Revised Code under the direction of a Registered Nurse, licensed Physician, Dentist, Podiatrist, or Optometrist.
- Perform skilled practical nursing procedures and treatments (e.g., obtaining vital statistics, applying oxygen, applying sterile dressing, inserting catheters, reinserting gastroscopy tubes, suctioning, wound treatments, administering enemas, douches, obtaining specimens, administering Enteral feedings, administering medications controlled and non-controlled to include oral, rectal, topical, inhalation, subcutaneous, and intramuscular).
- Observe, document, and report patient conditions and take appropriate actions.
- Provide thorough and knowledgeable reports of patient needs to RN/Physician.
- Provide patient teaching and monitor patients during and as follow-up for procedures.
- Assist RN and Physician as needed.
- Respond to emergencies, provide first aid, perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, and use and direct the use of AED in emergencies.
- Maintain medical accountability records and prepare related reports/forms (e.g., charts/patient records, medication administration records, unusual incident forms, seizure documentation forms, restraints logs, and other forms as required).
- Complete thorough and knowledgeable documentation, verify and implement Physician’s orders.
- Complete and maintain controlled drug administration/tracking records and report any inaccuracies in documentation immediately.
- Complete and maintain infection control documentation.
- Maintain work assignment records/documents and forms as needed.
- Maintain supplies needed to provide an organized, appropriately stocked work area (i.e., orders, inventories, delivers/obtains).
- Communicate with pharmacy as needed to maintain medication stocks.
- Maintain assigned medical work areas (i.e., clean equipment/carts, cabinets/storage areas) and provide daily cleaning.
- Provide clerical tasks (i.e., answer phones, file, copy, fax).
- Provide general nursing care and assist and provide work direction, orientation, and training as needed to lower-level direct staff in providing general unskilled nursing care (e.g., feeding, dressing, bathing, transferring, and repositioning).
- Attend medical appointments as needed and participate in meetings as needed.
- Respond to patient alarms and assist in maintaining patient supervision levels as required.
- Confer with the Nursing Supervisor or the Director of Nursing in her absence on nursing needs or anything pertaining to the needs of nursing personnel.
