Job Details
- Location: Highland Hills, OH
- Shift: 2nd shift (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM) with every other weekend required. 3rd shift is also available.
- Overtime: Potential for OT
- Assignment: Ongoing with no set end date
Job Duties
As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will:
- Administer nursing care within the scope of practice as set forth in Division (F) of Section 4723.01 of Ohio Revised Code under the direction of registered nurses, licensed physicians, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, or chiropractors.
- Perform tasks such as administering oxygen, applying sterile dressings, inserting catheters, reinserting gastrostomy tubes, suctioning, irrigating wounds, giving enemas, douches, collecting specimens, performing dialysis treatments, and operating hemodialysis equipment.
- Assist physicians with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests, and provide emergency care including first-aid and CPR.
- Administer controlled and non-controlled medications in various forms and provide medication instructions to patients.
- Maintain medication accountability records, observe and document patient conditions, and prepare related reports and records.
- Order medications and medical supplies, clean and restock the nurses' station and medication room, and perform clerical tasks such as answering phones and filing.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Knowledge of skilled licensed practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, patient care, first-aid, CPR, general hospital practices, HIPAA regulations, and human relations.
- Skill in using medical equipment such as respirators, dialysis machines, sterilizers, oxygen equipment, and blood pressure cuffs.
- Ability to understand practical nursing, recognize unusual or threatening conditions, take appropriate emergency action, develop good rapport with patients, and perform medical treatments.
- Strength to move, reposition, or restrain patients as necessary.
Requirements
- License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration.
- Certification in IV Therapy for those administering dialysis treatment.
- Biennial renewal of licensure and maintenance of CPR certification.
Working Conditions
- Work nights and weekends with rotating days off.
- May be required to work mandatory overtime.
- Exposure to bodily fluids, unpredictable patient behavior, illness, and infectious diseases.
- May require travel to community sites under contract with the Department of Mental Health and Department of Developmental Disabilities.
