Position Summary
At the direction of the Security Sergeant/Officer in Charge or above, carries out all duties and assignments of a Security Officer including the proper and timely completion of all post and other task assignments. Identifies and communicates security issues to Security Sergeant/Officer in Charge, Assistant Director of Security or Security Director. Recognize and is responsible for the appropriate and authorized use of all Security Department equipment including radios, cameras, Hospital vehicles, etc.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
- Demonstrates/articulates an understanding of the responsibilities of the position, utilizing security policies and procedure via PolicyTech.
- Verbalizes and applies knowledge of current Department and Hospital Policies and Procedures.
- Attends staff meetings or equivalent to update knowledge related to current Department/Hospital issues.
- Attends in-services, Net Learning as required/requested to update knowledge.
- Completes annual Department/Hospital competency requirements
- Ability to observe and report unusual activity.
- Ability to investigate and report incidents.
- Ability to verbalize tour events and unusual activities to supervisor and others.
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent plus at least two years of relevant work experience. Must have and maintain New York State licensing requirement.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Prior security experience preferred.
- College course credit preferred.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be completed within 90 days of hire.
- De-escalation training completed within the probationary period.
- Restraint training completed within the probationary period.

- This position requires stand or walking for long periods of time.
- Lifting of bodies and other weighted items is required.
- May be exposed to or work around chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
