POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the licenses Vocational Nurse provides nursing care to residents as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with standards of nursing practices and regulations; and supervises the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) staff in the delivery of direct resident care.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare and review medical records and nurses' notes, and assess resident's physical and emotional status. Monitor resident activity, including vitals, and provide nursing care according to the physician's orders, care plans, established standards and facility policies. Coordinate and assist or prepare for new admissions, transfers, or discharges. Transcribe physician's telephone orders. Communicate with residents, family members, other interdisciplinary team members, and management regarding resident's status.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies. Sign, date and perform all charting and record keeping in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Understand, comply with, and promote all rules regarding residents' rights.
- Assist and participate in developing and implementing written care plans for individual residents that address the needs of the resident.
- Participate in in-service training; assist in implementing orientation programs and job skills training; maintain professional competence.
- Monitor environment and care practices of nursing personnel to ensure compliance with established safety, fire, disaster, infection control and all other departmental policies and procedures; ensure cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas.
- Supervise the CNA's on the unit including monitoring work assignments and providing feedback and counseling if needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).
- Must be able to relate positively to residents and families and to work cooperatively with other employees.
- Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
- Must be able to supervise other employees and work cooperatively to attain resident care objectives.
- Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices): Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to hear and respond to pages; ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures, ability to read and write; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions; ability to communicate orally and in writing with residents, families, personnel, vendors and consultants; ability to remain calm under stress.
