POSITION SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, the primary focus of the Lieutenant — Field Operations (Lieutenant) is to oversee the field operations of the EMTs, Paramedics, Students, and observers within Empress EMS. The Lieutenant possesses education and experience in areas of management, planning, solid knowledge of scheduling practices, problem solving to oversee the field supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Acts under the direction of the Captain — Field Operations and/or Operations Administrator.
· Maintains a positive and respectful attitude
· Works with other department supervisors to ensure proper management or system, reports issues to superiors as necessary
· Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize duties
· Maintains appropriate customer relations
· Ability to operate in concurrence with NYS and regional guidelines as a Paramedic
· Punctual
· Assists Lieutenants in assuming accountability and responsibility for their division's staffing needs, counsels and assists subordinate staff; reviews activities and provides leadership and guidance regarding various issues and concerns
· Fosters a harmonious, inclusive work environment and effective working relationships among staff and all coworkers. Models and ensures appropriate workplace behavior that reflects the values of Empress Ambulance Service
· Ensures the professional and technical development of assigned staff. Provides direct and specific feedback regarding accomplishments and areas needing improvement
· Oversees activities and handles various issues occurring during their shift
· Working knowledge of, and adheres to Empress EMS policies and procedures
· Ensure compliance with established policies, guidelines, protocols and procedures, identifying and correcting any deficiencies
· Ensure subordinate staff are informed, educated, and knowledgeable of changes in policy or protocol
· Responds to personnel-related issues in accordance with established polices, guidelines, protocols, and procedures; handles issues and provides direction and assistance through subordinate supervisors. Keeps staff informed and educated of changes in policy or protocol
· Shift coverage of the Field Supervisor group’s primary responsibility
· Safely operate emergency vehicles during both emergency and non-emergency modes
· Providesand directs emergency medical care as needed. Evaluates subordinate emergency medical care as needed.
· Completes all shift documentation as required, including but not limited to: patient care reports, repair requests, end of shift reports, etc.
· Acts as part of, and in accordance with the Incident Command System
· Subject to off duty emergency recall as necessary
· Reviews and recommends changes to existing policies, guidelines, protocols and procedures
· Facilitates restock, coordination, record keeping and deployment of all controlled substances or Notify Empress EMS Controlled Substance Agent(s) of any noted issues or deficiencies
· Responds to major incidents as necessary, or recalled, and fulfills appropriate roles within the Incident Command System
· Oversees routine aspects of service delivery, including clinical documentation, communications, clinical quality of care, training, ambulance operations, system status, customer relations, incident command, coordination and problem resolution
· Effectively present information and respond to questions from administration, other supervisors, other agencies and facilities, subordinates and the general public
· Other responsibilities as deemed necessary and appropriate by superiors
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid NYS Paramedic Certification
- Valid Hudson Valley and Westchester REMAC Certifications
- Minimum of 3 years of full-time experience as a NYS Paramedic or minimum of 1 year of 911 experience
- Ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance).
- Be proficient in all duties performed by subordinates
- Good interpersonal skills

- Excellent documentation skills
- Advanced knowledge of the Incident Command System
- Excellent incident investigation skills
- Ability to teach skills to others
- Working knowledge of EMS Systems / Private Ambulance and Medical Transportation Systems required
- Dispatch experience preferred
