Position Overview
Reports to the Aquatics Manager and operates under the general supervision of the Aquatic Coordinator. The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining constant surveillance of patrons at the Aquatic Center, acting promptly to ensure their safety in emergencies. Additional duties include minor maintenance, cleaning, and securing the facility.

- Lifeguarding Duties:
- Greet members and guests, ensuring a safe and professional environment.
- Maintain constant surveillance of patrons; respond immediately to emergencies.
- Provide emergency care and treatment until medical services arrive.
- Follow emergency procedures as outlined in the operations manual.
- Answer inquiries about facility operations, policies, schedules, and procedures.
- Manage pool configurations based on programs, member usage, and events.
- Enforce facility rules and regulations.
- Address client complaints and suggestions, adhering to BHF's seek-to-serve policy.
- Facility Maintenance:
- Performs light cleaning duties, including equipment storage and general clean-up.
- Open and secure the facility at scheduled times as needed.
- Professional Development:
- Complete additional job-related duties and projects as assigned.
- Attend department meetings and stay informed on shared information.
- Complete mandatory education and competencies within specified timeframes.
- Maintain licenses and certifications throughout the fiscal year, including BCLS (CPR) and other relevant qualifications.
- Utilize universal precautions and ergonomic techniques to ensure safety.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements and organizational policies.
- Be available for overtime and flexible shifts as needed.

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; must be at least 17 years old.
- Background in aquatics is beneficial.
- Certification as a Lifeguard from the American Red Cross (ARC) is required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with a diverse clientele.
- Certification in lifeguarding, CPR, AED, and First Aid required, or plans for certification before starting duties.
- Commitment to positive fitness and health practices, reflecting a fit and healthy lifestyle.
- Work in an athletic club aquatic environment with frequent interruptions and varying noise levels and temperatures.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Requires physical stamina and the ability to perform essential functions of the position.
