GENERAL PURPOSE: |
Operates various pieces of light equipment for the purpose of street repair and maintenance, maintains equipment and performs other duties as assigned. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: |
Receives direct supervision from Superintendent Street/Drainage. |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
Operates light equipment for the purpose of street repair and maintenance. Equipment includes, but it is not limited to: operating pneumatic rollers, wheel loaders, street sweepers, sand spreaders, water trucks, distributor trucks, dump trucks, crack sealing machines, and herbicide sprayer. Be form liar with back hoe and loader. Performs other duties by operating hand tools for wood working, metal fabrication and other jobs, completing tree and limb trimming and brush removal, and completing minor sidewalk, curb and gutter repair, other concrete installation and repair. Maintains equipment by performing preventative maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles. Operation of light and heavy equipment and motorized vehicles in the maintenance and repair of City streets to include tractors with shredders and brush chipper. Haul materials and will assist in road repair, asphalt work, and operation of street sweeper. Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure serviceability of equipment and makes minor field repairs and adjustments. Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department and to perform labor duties when not operating construction equipment. On call schedule required. The employee must have the ability to work well with others and have a good/pleasant attitude. Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department. Must be able to follow directions. Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function. |
PERIPHERAL DUTIES: |
Serves as a member of various employee committees as assigned. Other Duties as assigned. |
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: |
Graduation from high school or equivalent; Three (3) months of light equipment operation and maintenance; or, Any equivalent combination of education and experience; Must possess a valid Texas Drivers CDL driver's License by date of hire with insurable record. CDL Class B certification required within nine (9) months of date of employment. A state approved herbicide applicators license within one year of hire. |
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: |
Knowledge of herbicide application and street crack sealing applications Knowledge in the safe and efficient operation of equipment and vehicles; Knowledge of routine vehicle operation and equipment preventive maintenance; Skilled in the operation of light/heavy motorized maintenance/construction equipment; Ability to follow oral, written instructions and to relate well with the public and coworkers; Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; Ability to handle several duties at once and prioritize jobs. |

Light motorized maintenance/construction equipment; hand tools; mowers; trimmers. |

The employee usually works near moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, vibrations and other hazards associated within an outside work environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. |
