Role: Line Cook and Commons Team Member
Reports To: Chef de Cuisine & Commons Manager
FLSA: Full Time (35-40 hours per week), Hourly, Non-Exempt
Role Status: On-site New Canaan, CT
Our Line Cook is an important part of our Commons team, contributing to a great culinary experience for Grace Farms' guests. The Commons is our community gathering place with communal tables from which visitors take in the expansive views of our 80 acres of landscape, while enjoying food and beverages from our menu.
Grace Farms utilizes freshly harvested produce from our Community Garden to create healthy, delicious and original dishes. This position will report to the Director of Culinary Operations, and is responsible for preparing all products with friendly, individualized attention for each customer on the main kitchen line including positions at the grill, flat top, oven, and pantry.
The line cook position is a full-time, year-round, non-exempt position. We offer a full range of benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, paid vacation, paid holidays, PTO days, AD&D, life insurance and short-term disability.
All candidates must have reliable transportation as Grace Farms is not located near public transportation options.
Responsibilities
- Wash, cut, prepare, and cook food, including items such as poultry, meats, vegetables, pizzas, salads, sauces, etc. at stations including but not limited to the grill, pizza oven, salad station.
- Learn the menu to provide accurate, timely service.
- Ability to multi-task and take direction from Sous Chef and Director of Culinary Operations
- Verify that prepared food meets requirements for safety, quality, and quantity standards.
- Clean, stock, and restock workstations and display cases.
- Contribute to a team-oriented culture of mutual respect and support for each other.
- Cleans kitchen, storage and workspace area as part of a culinary team committed to promoting and providing a safe and clean kitchen and service environment in keeping with Grace Farms sanitation and cleanliness standards.
- May work special catering events on site, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Minimum High School Degree or equivalent. Culinary Degree Preferred but will consider equivalent years of cooking experience.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively with all team members and other colleagues at Grace Farms
- Bi-lingual communication skills a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, climb stairs, and stand for an extended period of time.
- Be able to handle hot and cold conditions during food preparation and cooking.
Compensation range: $19 - $21.50 per hour, plus a competitive benefits package.
