What You Will Do
Infrastructure Service Division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Computing Systems Professional 2/3 for the Programmatic Services Group: Linux Server team. ISD-PS consists of approximately 85 professionals, technicians, and students. ISD division is responsible for the desktop and server support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around various server support teams that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments.
The successful candidate will work on a team supporting customers at locations across the Laboratory, performing a wide variety of system administration activities for servers and workstations, including but not limited to:

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). - Support Linux/UNIX servers and desktop systems.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, workstations, and network issues in a heterogeneous environment
- Implement and manage Linux solutions to support customer workstation requirements.
- Support server/client virtual environments.
- Resolve customer support issues and fulfill requests through remote and onsite support.
- Automate tasks using programming and scripting.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues including file shares and authentication.
- Communicate technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience working with RHEL/Linux operating systems.
- Experience scripting automated tasks.
- Knowledge of enterprise configuration management tools.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting skills with workstations and servers.
- Experience using a formal ticket management system.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with NIST guidelines and standards.
- Proficiency with Ansible for configuration management
- Knowledge of various Linux distributions
- Experience working in Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI)
