Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, a global Am Law 50 firm, is seeking a Litigation Docket & Calendar Specialist I.
This position can be based in any of the following offices: Downtown Los Angeles, Century City, Orange County, San Diego (Downtown), San Diego (Del Mar), San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, New York or Washington DC. There is only one opening.
*This position has a remote/hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation to be in the office on an as needed basis.

The Docket & Calendar Specialist I is a member of Sheppard Mullin’s Docket & Calendar Department. This role reports to the Docket & Calendar Manager.
The Docket & Calendar Specialist I team member must possess strong knowledge of the State, Federal, Local, and Judges’ rules. Must have a thorough understanding of the litigation process, as well as computation of time procedures, for accurate calculations of deadlines. The Specialist I will also have to work independently and review work of other team members to develop a cohesive, functioning Docketing team.
The ideal Docket & Calendar Specialist I should have a minimum of 1+ years’ experience. Qualified candidates must have strong knowledge of state and federal rules of procedure and familiarity with using an automated, rules-based docket and calendar system, preferably CompuLaw.
The Docket & Calendar Specialist I team member must possess strong knowledge of the State, Federal, Local, and Judges’ rules. Responsibilities:
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- High quantity and quality of document processing
- Provides efficient QC (Quality Control) for accuracy
- Ability to make use of court rules, dockets, and other resources to aid in processing documents
- Strong attention to detail
- Problem solving and strong analytical skills
- Proficient computer skills to utilize specific docket and third-party software
- Knowledge of all firm’s calendaring procedures and systems, (CompuLaw Vision, CompuLaw Web Portal, and Docket & Calendar Workflow)
- Can assume other tasks and responsibilities as directed.
Essential Functions of Job:
- Must be very detailed oriented, a fast learner, able to multi-task, and work independently in a very busy department.
- Must have the ability to research resource guides, rule codes, authorities, and numerous courts’ websites.
- Candidate should be able to communicate quickly and clearly via emails and phone to inquiries from attorneys, secretaries, and paralegals regarding matter calendars and court procedures.
- Must be very flexible and adaptable to changing department procedures when necessary.
- Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
- Must be reliable and dependable.
- Daily attendance is critical.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications:
- 1-5 years of litigation docket and calendaring experience in a law firm legal docketing department or clerk's office. Strong knowledge of state and federal rules of civil procedures.
- Familiarity with using an automated, rules-based docket and calendar system.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of court rules in California, Texas, Illinois, Washington DC, Virginia, and/or Maryland are highly preferred, with a strong preference for knowledge of California court rules.
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer/Software Knowledge
Required: Familiarity with CompuLaw or similar docket software
Preferred: Typing speed of 45+ WPM
Work Environment
- You will be based in one of our local Sheppard Mullin offices but will be allowed to work from home.
- You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.
- Overtime when needed.
California: The pay range for this position is $35.00 to $44.00 per hour.
New York: The pay range for this position is: $37.00 - $47.00 per hour. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
