Responsibilities
Case Management and Client Coordination:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for case teams, ensuring client needs are met.
- Develop and manage case price projections in collaboration with the eDiscovery Senior Project Manager, advising on maximizing efficiencies and cost reductions.
- Coordinate technical work with vendors, contractors, and temporary resource personnel, providing quality control for all technical aspects of eDiscovery projects.
- Manage data through EDRM phases, ensuring proper handling and processing.
- Communicate effectively with case teams to address client questions, issues, and work requests.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure proper allocation of resources based on deadlines.
Operational Oversight:
- Lead planning and implementation of internal operational initiatives for process improvement and standardization.
- Enter billable time and manage billing for assigned cases, ensuring all hours and units are billed appropriately in systems.
- Track and manage all case team deadlines, client/matter request queues, and status of work performed by other departments.
- Ensure proper documentation of eDiscovery project plans, including workflows, role and task assignments, estimates, timetables, and process improvements.
- Build effective working relationships with vendors to maintain quality control and consistency on eDiscovery systems.
eDiscovery Support:
- Utilize knowledge of eDiscovery software, litigation logistics, customer/client needs, and vendor selection procedures to plan, design, and execute appropriate IT -support for each case.
- Work with Senior Project Managers to design, maintain, and administer eDiscovery databases and their corresponding image/data collections.
- Assist with the evaluation of new software or processes.
- Assess learning needs of legal teams and implement necessary training programs; proactively suggest process improvements and identify training gaps.
- Assist case teams and attorneys with onboarding, operating, and troubleshooting e-discovery database platforms.
- Manage day-to-day eDiscovery project tasks, collaborating with attorneys, paralegals, and IT personnel.
- Develop eDiscovery data processing and production specifications to meet legal requirements.
- Manage data through EDRM phases and coordinate with internal/external teams to get data loaded, tagged, processed, and produced.
- Work closely with the litigation, IT, and other legal teams to develop, manage, and automate technical components of trial preparation.
- Delegate appropriate tasks to vendors and internal resources.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness of job instructions and final work products; develop creative solutions to minimize problematic situations.
- Assist in the creation of privilege logs and ensure efficient handling of data collection, processing, review, and production.
- Analyze and interpret information from various sources to develop solutions to complex problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent training and experience may be considered in place of formal education.
- Proven experience in daily eDiscovery/litigation support or similar legal roles, with a history of managing client interactions independently and collaborating effectively with litigation teams.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a project manager or eDiscovery manager.
- Experience in managing third-party contractors and vendors.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in analyzing, configuring, and implementing software to meet user needs.
- Administration experience with litigation support software (such as Relativity, Everlaw, CaseText, and other similar tools), eDiscovery applications, network environments, word processing, relational database, and spreadsheet applications to coordinate technical resources for practice group support projects, including equipment, staffing, and software/applications.
- Demonstrated ability to define requirements for litigation support, prepare ESI protocols, and make recommendations for their use, including developing related implementation plans, specifications, and timelines for changes and/or developments in firm software and hardware applications.
- Solid understanding of the U.S. legal discovery process, e-discovery, and the EDRM (Electronic Discovery Reference Model).
- Advanced knowledge of general e-discovery operations, including document processing, hosting, review, and production.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also in a collaborative environment as part of a team.
- Ability to innovate and devise creative solutions to both unique and common e-discovery challenges.
- Understanding of various data storage methodologies, including effective methods for extracting information from source data using defensible methods, strategies for converting extracted data to a reviewable form, various review methodologies and systems (including vendor-hosted solutions), and methods of effective electronic production.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating the ability to coordinate multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines and business objectives.
