Job Description:
Responsibilities:
As a Long Distance (LD) Transport Engineer, you will be responsible for network equipment inventory and design of long-distance, ultra-long haul, and OTN mesh network transport. Engineering of projects for the domestic US in the provisioning database(s) will include installations, decommissions, system rolls, and manual updates to address data integrity issues encountered as the result of an outage, NOC move, or redline in the field to ensure the field and provisioning databases are in sync.
- Maintain equipment inventory records and LD transport in provisioning database(s).
- Create and activate end-to-end services at the optical layer—OTN/SONET/SDH via OneControl GUI.
- Engineer and design ultra-long-haul and OTN mesh network transport.
- Perform database cleanup to ensure integrity of the system and network.
- Work with peers to ensure OTP and delivery to support the needs of the business and customer.
- Handle escalations and troubleshoot as needed.
- Stay current on technological evolutions.
MUST HAVE SKILLS (Most Important):
- Experience in the telecommunications industry.
- Technical knowledge of long-distance, ultra-long haul, and OTN mesh networks.
- Equipment knowledge specific to SONET/SDH, ULH, OTN mesh, and WDM transport.
- Vendor-specific knowledge: Ciena, Infinera, Fujitsu, and varied long haul networks.
- System knowledge: BGW or Granite (XNG), CoFEE (Canvas), Nautilus, ICON, CCP, Venue, One Control.
- Experience managing complex processes and driving results.
- Experience with windows-based programs and corporate database systems.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Strong understanding of engineering specs and drawings.
- Knowledge and experience with both equipment inventory and design.
- Strong working knowledge of legacy network operating systems.
- Enjoy analyzing problems with the autonomy to select and implement the right solutions.
- Work well independently but also as a team player able to ensure the best outcomes.
- Manage assignments and competing priorities, staying focused on important deadlines.
- Experience with windows-based programs and corporate database systems.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
- BachelorÂ’s degree in a related technical field or relevant experience.
- Five or more years of telecom work experience.
LOGISTICS:
- Shift: Standard Day Shift 8a-5p.
- No weekend work required.
- No on-call work required.
