Job Title: Livestock Manager
Salary: $60,000 - $75,000, with potential to reach $80,000 - $85,000 for an exceptional candidate
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Livestock Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal husbandry, organic feeding practices, and rotational grazing. This role involves managing a team, overseeing livestock care, and ensuring the well-being of our animals while maintaining our high standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Animal Management: Oversee all aspects of livestock care including cows, sheep, pigs, chickens (layers and meat), and ducks. Implement organic feeding practices and rotational grazing strategies.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of 6-7 staff members, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to best practices.
- Program Management: Develop and run the livestock program, including scheduling and coordinating animal processing with a third-party processor.
- Collaboration: Participate in executive and farm planning meetings. Work closely with the farm owner and coordinators to align on strategic goals.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to food safety and animal welfare standards.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in livestock management, including knowledge of poultry preferred.
- Strong background in organic feeding practices and rotational grazing.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Local candidates preferred; however, relocation may be considered for the right individual (note: relocation expenses may not be covered).
