About the Job
This position is responsible for the transportation of products of the company to its customers, both domestic and international. Manages the daily activities of shipping functions. Implements procedures to improve quality, productivity, and efficiency. Ensures timely delivery of shipments. Maintains relationships with carrier vendors and consistently resolves customer issues. Leads and directs the work of others.
Essential Job Functions
· Ensure shipments are shipped out of the manufacturing facility and delivered in a timely manner.
· Confirm documentation is accurately processed, distributed, and released to carriers, forwarders, customers, and agents in a timely manner.
· Manages international shipping / receiving process, working with Freight forwarders and Brokers to ensure proper documentation is completed to meet all compliance regulations.
· Ensure our customers and our customer service department are well informed with shipping in and out dates.
· Secure insurance programs with various carriers to ensure all packages and/ or shipments for the company are covered.
· Drives logistics & continuous improvement activities (storage, shipping) including: inventory control, warehousing, transportation, logistics planning, order processing & customer service.
· Work with production manager/team to ensure parts arrive in shipping area for on time shipments.
· Select shipment routes, based on nature of goods shipped, transit times, or security needs.
· Arrange for special transport of shipments that need to be expedited.
· Ensure that shipping methods requested by customers are followed and maintained/updated as needed.
· Ensure all weights are documented properly and billed accordingly.
· Consolidate loads for individual customers to reduce costs.
· Efficiently correct all shipping errors and communicate with the team.
· Communicate standard logistics metrics.
· Negotiate spot rates with various vendors.
· Resolve quality, service & cost issues.
· Conduct and maintain a daily forklift safety checklist at the beginning of every shift.
· Conduct and maintain a daily scale verification checklist at the beginning of every shift.
· Conduct daily inventory audits of supplies and work in progress.
· Maintaining shipping and receiving logs.
· Strong knowledge of international logistics cost estimating, US & Canada domestic trucking and international logistics is required.
· Must have a broad working knowledge of all principles and methods for moving materials by air, rail, sea, or road including relative costs and benefits.
· Must be able to follow guidelines and procedures of the company’s logistic and cargo insurance policy.
· Must be able to properly package materials using various packing equipment as well as strapping and wrapping pallets to ensure our products/customer’s parts are safe and undamaged.
· Must be able to work with various metal particulates such as nickel, cobalt, iron, and Tungsten Carbide. Please ask for a full list and SDS from supervisor if there are any known metal or chemical allergies.
· Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, & Excel).
· Must have working knowledge of international regulations regarding the shipment of goods.
· Be detail oriented.
· Flexible and highly motivated.
· Have a strong work ethic and professional demeanor.
· Effective time management and organizational skills.
· Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
· Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
· Must be team player but also able to work independently, to meet intense deadlines, goals, and objectives.
Other Skills/Abilities
· Forklift safety certified.
· Must be able to lift loads of 50lbs at a time.
· Must be able to be on their feet for up to 8hrs daily.
· Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
