Job Description:
Seeks a full-time, LPN to practice 10-months per year, 35 hours per week, in a higher education outpatient setting. This position is part of Health Services within Student Health and Counseling Services (SHAC) and reports to the Associate Director of SHAC- Health Services and Dean of Student Health
Duties/Responsibilities:
ï‚· Assess the health needs of students, provide immediate and follow-up care as needed
ï‚· Knowledge of NYS immunization requirements
ï‚· Knowledge, understanding, and compliance with HIPAA and FERPA
ï‚· Maintain ethical standards and adhere to the University's code of Conduct
ï‚· Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
ï‚· Conduct a comprehensive review of students' medical history and conduct physical examinations
ï‚· Prepare students' documentation, including progress notes, intake/discharge summaries, documentation of important findings/diagnoses/assessments, and psychosocial history Complete necessary paperwork and reports, filing, and organizing reports accurately and in a timely manner
ï‚· Monitor, record, and report assessment findings (symptoms and changes in health status) and interventions
ï‚· Communicate findings in your assessment to students and designated providers (while being HIPAA and FERPA compliant)
ï‚· Participate in the collection and recording of student health documents that qualify with NYS as immunization and assessment compliant
ï‚· Assist with answering phones, scheduling, and triaging
ï‚· Perform additional office support duties as assigned
ï‚· Coordinate with the SHAC team and other staff/faculty as necessary and appropriate
ï‚· Develop therapeutic relationships with students, college staff/faculty, and referral sources in the great community
ï‚· Maintain a positive, inclusive, and compassionate bedside manner
ï‚· Perform point of care tests including blood samples, fingerstick, Urine Hcg, EKG's,etc.
ï‚· Attend and participate in meetings, student education sessions, special events, orientations, etc. as needed (occasional evenings and weekends)
ï‚· Provide teaching in the areas of health promotion, disease prevention, maintenance, and management of acute/chronic diseases and participate in regular health events to contribute to the wellbeing of the student body
Qualifications:
ï‚· Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS)
ï‚· Able to use Automated external defibrillator (AED)
ï‚· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred
Education:
ï‚· BSN with active and clear licensing in New York State
ï‚· Relevant, graduate degree from accredited program
Experience:
ï‚· Minimum of two years experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
ï‚· Experience working with college aged population strongly preferred
