Responsible for assisting the RN in assessing, implementing, and evaluating care for various patients within the facility. Reports directly to the charge nurse and Clinical Director of the unit. This position works in conjunction with other members of nursing service, ancillary services, physicians, patients, and families. It collaborates with various members of the healthcare team to ensure quality of care across the continuum. Requires the ability to be self-directed and quality focused. Interpersonal communication skills are a necessary function of this position

Hours of Position:
Full-time, 36 hours/week, 7p-7a
$10k sign-on bonus for eligible candidates (current employees and candidates who have worked at Vanderbilt within the last year are not eligible).
Department Summary:
The Post-Surgical/Medical unit, also known as 1-North, is located on the 1st floor of the Patient Tower at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital. This is a 30 bed unit and the typical Nurse to patient ratio is 1:5-6.
The environment on our unit is fast-paced, patient-centered, and quality-driven.
We care for adult patients who are being treated for general surgery, orthopedics, bariatrics, gastrointestinal, urology, plastics, peritoneal dialysis, vascular, wounds, oncology, and various medical diagnoses. Our patients are unique because of the variety of diagnoses we treat and each one has different needs.
One of the perks of working on my unit is it is very upbeat, fast-paced, and has high quality, employee, and patient experience scores. There is excellent teamwork among all members of the staff.
Our nurses are successful because they have compassion, dedication, and loyalty to their patients and to each other.
We orient new nurses to our unit by placing them with a preceptor and tailoring their orientation to their individual needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assists RN with medical histories
• Assigned duties within LPN scope of care practice
• Provides direct patient care which includes medication administration, treatments, and IV initiation within LPN scope of care practice
• Adheres to practices and policies outlined to ensure patient safety and follows infection control standards
TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• Clinical Patient Documentation (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments. Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner.
• LPN Patient Education (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
• LPN Care Planning (Novice): Participates in the development of the plan of care in consultation with the licensed healthcare team. Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Competently handles multiple assignments often simultaneously, prioritizing work into manageable and measurable units. Ability to adapt to changes to patient care and area needs with minimal disruption and loss of productivity. Follows up to assure problems and issues are resolved.
• Clinical Competency (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate nursing interventions (such as wound care, point of care testing, vitals signs, etc.) in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
