POSITION SUMMARY: The Licensed practical Nurse is responsible and accountable for the delivery of nursing care directly or indirectly for individual residents. The Registered Nurse maintains the quality of resident care through an ongoing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and the supervision of nursing team members. The staff RN assumes responsibility for specific functions as delegated by the Nurse Manager or Nursing Supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all job functions in a manner consistent With the facility's Mission Statement.
Participates in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to the delivery of nursing care services by:
Knowing and adhering to objectives and policies of the facility and nursing service related to resident care.
Assisting in the provision and maintenance of an environment conducive to physical and emotional health.
Conducting resident rounds, visiting each resident at a minimum, at the start and prior to the end of each shift.
Establishing and maintaining good interpersonal relationships.
Maintaining effective and proper use of equipment and supplies, including safekeeping of resident’s belonging; initiating requisitions for supplies and equipment and resident's personal property.
Noting problematic situations to the Nurse Manager and/or Nursing Supervisor.
Continuously evaluating the quality of nursing care provided by the Nursing Assistants, Licensed Practical Nurse, and utilizing the results to make recommendations for staffing and/ or the implementation of new approaches to the resident's care.
Maintaining for safekeeping of drugs, including controlled substances, and their records according to law.
Assuring that residents' prescriptions are renewed as necessary, a sufficient supply of medication is available and that outdated / discontinued medication is disposed of according to the facility policy and of the appropriate regulatory agency.
Planning and providing the resident/ family with education on disease process, disease prevention, Nutritional needs, medications, and other programs and treatment practices specific to achieve the independence and control of her/ his life and care needs/
Completes assigned sections of the MDS applies appropriate CAA(s), and participates in the development of the Comprehensive Care Plan with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Records and reports residents' responses and collaborates with appropriate members of the interdisciplinary team by:
Maintaining accurate and accessible records and reports.
9. Identifies those components of the nursing regimen, which may be delegated to allied nursing personnel and provides teaching and guidance necessary by:
Cooperating and sharing responsibility with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
Directing, supervising, assisting, and teaching non-professional personnel in giving resident care.
10. Participates in maintaining standards of nursing practice by:
Knowing and applying scientific principles in performing nursing procedures.
Applying knowledge of drugs, diagnostic tests, and other therapeutic modalities based on
established principles and precautions.
Utilizing standards of nursing practice in coordinating the objectives of nursing services_
Ensuring resident/ patient and family satisfaction.
Transcribes physician orders accurately in the TAR/MAR
Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary committees that influence or determine policies affecting nursing practice.
interprets philosophy and objectives of the facility and the Nursing Department to residents’ families, personnel’ and the community
Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experience.
Performs other duties as assigned as designated/
