Under the supervision of the Physician, a Licensed Practical Nurse assesses, plans, manages, and providesdirect and indirect patient care, according to each individual's needs.
Responsibilities:- Escort patients to and from the exam/procedure room and complete the patient intake according to protocol
- Set up, clean, sterilize and inventory all medical equipment and instruments, including procedure trays
- Prepare syringes and administer subcutaneous and intra-muscular injections as directed by the physician
- Complete pre-operative intake via one-on-one interview, explain surgical procedures, and answer questions as needed
- Drape and disinfect the surgical site, administer local anesthesia, and use a handheld cautery device to achieve hemostasis
- Prepare patients for laser procedures which may include filling liquid nitrogen canisters
- Dispenses oral medications as directed
- Assist physician during all procedures, including but not limited to passing instruments, blotting, cutting sutures, bandaging of surgical site, and assisting provider with injectable procedures
- Prepare discharge paperwork, review wound care instructions with the patient, and document all medical instructions given to patients.
- Prepare pathology and lab specimens, routing them to the correct lab as required by the patient’s insurance
- Notify providers and patients of pathology and lab results
- Schedule or re-schedule appointments with providers, and specialists as necessary.
- Maintain medication samples, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records
- Train other employees on medical assistant duties
- Performs light janitorial duty including but not limited to, cleaning and straightening exam rooms in between patients, stocking paper towels and toilet paper, and cleaning spills
- Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.
- Ability to work in compliance with OSHA andblood-borne pathogen standards
- Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA standards
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and is able to work well within a team
- Professionalism and strong customer service skills is a must
- Ability to communicate with doctors, patients, and co-workers clearly and conciselyin a professional and friendly manner
Education and Experience:
- Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse
- At least 1 year of experience in dermatology or an outpatient surgical clinic is strongly preferred
Physical Requirements:
- The ability to stand for prolonged periods (i.e. an hour at a time)
- Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds
- Must be able to use a step stool
