About the Job
Duties:
Patient care employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all age groups–must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs in relation to age and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
Skills:
- Collects assessment/ reassessment data and communicates data to appropriate staff. Assist in the implementation of plan of care.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare team using effective communication, utilizing SBAR when appropriate.
- Demonstrates recognition and implementation of NPSGs as appropriate.
- Documentation is completed legibly, objectively, accurately and timely. Identifies and responds to critical changes and reports them to RN.
- Responsible or 100% review of staff meeting information by attending staff meetings or reviewing staff meeting minutes.
- Reads communication materials timely.
- Provides an environmental conducive to safety and security. Implements appropriate precautions/ measures.
- Responds to emergency codes.
- Administers medications safely and appropriately according to scope of practice and hospital P&P's.
- Upholds the basic rights of privacy and seeks to preserve the dignity and independence of expression of all patients / family.
- Practices appropriate measures of infection control using principles of standard precautions.
- Provides appropriate assessment and management of pain. Maintains suicide precautions as indicated.
- Demonstrates competence in applying restraints and use of team-centered approach in the management of BH unit patients to avoid/ limit the use of seclusion and restraints. Adheres to all policies related to seclusion and restraint.
- Maintains fall precautions for patients at risk.
- Demonstrates appropriate us of equipment and devices pertinent to the care and safety of the patient Maintains a therapeutic environment.
- Provides emotional support and therapeutic interventions to unit patients Follows the Behavioral Standards. Provides break and meal coverage as needed.
