Education/Certification: MA- High School diploma preferred. Prefer graduation of a post-secondary medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) Is a graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting program accredited by the National HealthCare Association (NHA) or its successor, the Committee on Allied Health Education (CAHEA), or its successor, Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), and/or 6-12 month clinical experience or any accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Board Certification Preferred. BLS certification.
CMA Is a graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting program accredited by the National HealthCare Association (NHA) or its successor, the Committee on Allied Health Education (CAHEA), or its successor, Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or its successor; or any accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education Board Certification Preferred. AHA BLS certification within two weeks of hire. Completion of IV certification course preferred. If not federally or state IV certified required to take hospital IV start course in order to do venipunctures of any kind. RN/LPN: RN degree with BLS certification and to obtain both ACLS and PALS certification within 6 months of hire. LPN degree with associated IV therapy certification and drug administration certification within 60 days of hire, along with BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications as above. The LPN may substitute PEARS instead of PALS.
Experience: MA-Clinical Skills may be specific to the clinical setting but may include EKGs, respiratory testing, lab tests classified as “waived” under CLIA, and administering medication only by unit, or single dosage, or by a dosage calculated and verified by a healthcare practitioner. CMA/LPN/RN Clinical Skills may be specific to the clinical setting but may include capillary blood withdrawal, venipuncture, intradermal. Subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, EKGS, respiratory testing, lab tests classified as “waived” under CLIA, and administering medication only by unit, or single dosage. Dosage calculated medications must be verified by a healthcare practitioner. 6 months required experience, 2-5 yrs clinical experience preferred
Equipment/Technology: Basic computer skills necessary
Language/Communication: English, Medical terminology, Grammar, Spelling & punctuation
Mathematical Skills: MA/CMA- Basic LPN/RN- Must be able to accurately calculate drug dosing and drip rates for IV therapy.
Mental Capabilities: MA/CMA/LPN/RN Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow. Can concentrate for long periods of time in order to complete assigned tasks with a better than average attention span in order to listen, read and remember verbal and written instructions. Can understand input from the supervisor and/or manager concerning errors and instructions.
Interpersonal: MA/CMA/LPN/RN Effectively communicates with administration, managers, and staff. Exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette
Performance: MA/CMA/LPN/RN Requires ability to work independently and with groups/teams as both project leader and team member. Requires attention to detail and ability to assimilate large amounts of information from various sources. Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and can work effectively with a diversity of personalities. Must be able to handle conflict issues with both patients and staff.
