Job Summary:
Operates one or more automatic wirecoating machines, including stranded wire and auxiliary equipment to coat wire with plastic coating for use on other machines. Makes changeovers and adjustments. Does set-up for special coated wire.
Essential Functions:
Sets-up and operates one or more automatic wirecoating machines, including stranded wire and auxiliary equipment. Operates at standard speeds and maintains good quality. Plans operating sequences, selects machine speeds and makes operating adjustments to hold close tolerances. Operates all respooling, take-up and pay-off equipment. Tightens acro-packs to coils of wire to prevent tangles.
Performs frequent checks of concentricity of wire. Maintains proper extruder temperatures, drive speeds, wire tension and pay-off and take-up tensions. Makes changeovers as necessary, checks for proper wire sizes and dies and tips.
Assures that proper materials and tools are used. Keeps hoppers filled with compounds.
Responsible for quality of product, related checks and paperwork.
Secondary Duties:
Observes and reports machine and parts wear or malfunctions.
Tags and weighs materials. Routes finished wire to appropriate areas.

Qualifications:
Education: Prefer high school diploma or GED
Experience: minimum of 1 year for proficiency
Skills: Manual dexterity
Must be able to work from written or verbal instructions
Uses variable measuring devices and shop math
Must be able to interpret gauges, laser mike systems and other devise and apply process control methods.
Special Requirements: Lift truck licensing requires visual acuity. Continuous standing.
Requires upper body strength to maneuver heavy reels into position for hoists.
Requires good color vision (this is a critical element)
Must be able to climb ladder to fill hoppers
