POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the daily setup and operation for one or more shear machines. Operate shear machine used to cut sheet metal, including loading, starting, and stopping the machinery and removing the finished product. He/she will also assist other operators with any of their daily duties including area housekeeping, maintenance work, and material staging. Maintain quality and safety standards, keep records and maintain equipment and supplies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan shearing by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials and specifications.
- Program shear by entering instructions, including zero and reference points and calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Sets-up shear for finished material specifications.
- Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part and sample workpieces and adhering to company standards.
- Maintains specifications by observing shearing, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls, adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, notifying Service Center Supervisor of needed repairs.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Operate forklift to move materials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- One or more years experience operating shear machines.
- Working experience on Accurshear and Niagara shear machines preferred.
- High School diploma preferred.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Drawing and reading comprehension skills.
- Ability to inspect sheared parts with precision inspection equipment.
- Possess some knowledge of and ability to identify fabrication industry metals.
- Ability to work well as a team member.
- Understanding and support of company policies and procedures.
- Safety conscious behavior.
- Excellent punctuality and attendance.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Lift, carry, push and or pull 1 50 lbs. frequently.
- Squat/kneel, bend/stoop, crawl, twist/turn, grasp and reach overhead and outward
frequently.
- Sit, stand and walk for 1 10 hours per day.
- Work in a fast paced industrial environment wearing hearing protection, vision
protection, steel-toed shoes and other appropriate protective clothing.
