Job/Position Summary
Precession mechanic responsible for setup, analysis, and troubleshooting of complex hydraulic presses and pressing die tooling. Precision tooling assemblies will be assembled, disassembled, maintained, and organized with minimal supervision. Apply hydraulic and engine experience to an exciting career. Ability to interpret formal work instructions, as well as other verbal and written communication is a requirement.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Changing press tooling assemblies on various hydraulic presses.
- Maintain exceptional housekeeping of the tools and work area.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of hydraulic presses.
- Understand and execute technical measurements as pertaining to die tools and presses.
- Collect, input, report data, identify issues, and report findings to management.
- This is a physical position requiring precision mechanical skills.
- Maintain die tooling including cleaning, light polishing, and retaping threads.
- Organize tool sets for easy tracking and installation.
- Read and interpret press tool drawings.
- Recommend improvements to drawings.
- Record machine set points for each part to reproduce settings in the future.
- Monitor fluid levels and hose conditions of hydraulic presses.
- Adjust press parameters based on engineering targets.
- Monitor pressure variations over time.
- Communicate with other operators and engineers for streamlined production solutions.
- Produce first article pressed parts.
- Communicate with press manufacturers’ technical support.
- Follow all safety protocols, quality procedures, and work instructions.
- Other related duties as directed by engineering.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- 2 years of experience with automotive or hydraulic equipment is required.
- 2 years of direct experience changing and maintain press machines and tooling, or similar mechanical experience on machinery, is a plus.
- Direct experience with wiring diagrams and troubleshooting is a plus.
- Direct experience with ceramic pressing is not required.
- Reading, writing, and communicating in English in required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Technical mechanical knowledge of precision equipment such as engines and pumps.
- Ability to set-up complex pressing die assemblies; perform first article pressing.
- Ability to identify tooling wear and communicate with contractors which repairs are needed.
- Ability to edit work instructions and technical reports.
- Knowledge of metrology tools such as micrometers, calipers, multi-meters, etc.
- Able to work independently or in team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage own workload.
- Ability to perform routine computer data entry and queries is required.
- Ability to share technical observations with other Technicians.
- ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Physical/Working Requirements
- Able to comply with requirements for respirator usage.
- Ability to move, handle, and lift pressing die components.
- Extended periods of standing combined with sitting and walking.
- Must be able to go up and down steps.
- Required to lift product and tooling into position in machinery which requires manual dexterity.
- Required to use measuring or other analytical tools requiring good near vision.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Exposure to moderate noise levels and use of chemicals.
- Physical requirements include walking, lifting 50 lbs., and pushing carts with samples.
