Machinist
Holt CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full-time, 1st shift Machinist 3 position available at our Kilgore, Texas location which is located at 3007 Maverick Dr. Kilgore TX 75662. The hours of the position are Monday-Friday, 7 am to 4 pm.
This machining position is responsible for machining parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as manual lathes, manual milling machines, shapers, or grinders., following established procedures and guidelines.

Education and Experience:
- At least five years of machining using manual lathes and mills experience preferred
- Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Additional Requirements:
- Must have all required machining and measuring tools like tape measure, calipers, micrometers, die grinders, and some hand tools.
Essential Functions:
- Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as manual lathes, manual milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments, such as micrometers or vernier calipers.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
- Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
- Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
- Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
- Mentors and helps train other technicians
- Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
- Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
- Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Training Paths
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt-moving equipment
- Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
- Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
- Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
- Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
- Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane
- The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in machining repair
- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
- The ability to read, write, and understand information
- The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
- Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
- Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet, and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
- Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
- Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
