POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for setting up and printing short to high volume print orders on offset presses, HP wide format and digital copiers to meet production schedules in a safe and the most cost-effective manner that supports the goals of Clayton County Public Schools. Meters and sorts all incoming mail and packages: Certified, USPS, FedEx ensuring all mail is properly documented and distributed to the respective recipients. Performs preventive and routine equipment maintenance. This position reports to the Printing Operations Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the daily operation of one and two-color offset printing presses, Xante’ En/Press, Rena Mach 6, HP360 wide format, X55 and digital copiers. Controls and adjusts the functions and settings of the machines for proper ink distribution, water settings, speed, temperature, etc. Inspects plates and equipment for visual defects for color and registration to ensure print clarity and color accuracy are being maintained. Assesses all print orders and applies mathematical calculations to determine details and specifications regarding job orders to ensure customers’ needs and deadlines are met. Utilizes knowledge of color printing in CYMK and Pantone while completing projects.
Sorts interdepartmental mail by department or location (e.g. bills, notices, envelopes and packages), signs for incoming registered or certified mail, stamp and record date of receipt and sender’s name, keeps records of incoming packages, including their weight, return address and description, correct and reforward misdirected mail, arranges for express delivery and returns when needed, distribute mail to individuals or departments, tracks mailroom supplies (e.g. stamps, envelopes, address labels) use electronic scanners and other technologies to confirm and track delivered packages and obtain signatures from recipients of boxes and pieces of mail.
Prints and packages finished products into boxes, makes labels and seals for secure shipping. Performs cleaning and minor preventative maintenance on the machinery to guarantee continuous optimum running and appearance as needed. Keeps the printing facility and working areas clean, orderly, and in a safe condition according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) regulations. Sets up and operates other printing equipment including, but not limited to, binding, jogging, collating, folding, drilling, laminating, and cutting machines, etc.
Assists in monitoring the production workflow to insure meeting of deadlines. Assists in maintaining stringent quality control standards and inspects completed work to ensure quality standards are met. Assists in providing and maintaining technical support for all high-speed copying equipment.
Transports all metered mail to USPS Office daily. Operates district vehicle transporting and picking up printing material to and from vendors for services.
Trains staff members, as instructed, on printing equipment as needed. Assists with customer service-related requests, pick-ups, and deliveries as needed.
Processes bulk mailings with variable data processing software and mailing machinery. Operates a variety of related mailing equipment, including postage meters, scales, etc. as required by the supervisor.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or GED required.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience and knowledge of computer-based imaging systems and printing industry specific applications required. Minimum of one (1) year of working experience operating small offset printing equipment, HP wide format, and digital copiers preferred. Proven experience working in a mailroom or proficiency in using mail processing equipment, including postage machines and sorting machines, familiarity with postal regulations and procedures.
Well-organized, with sharp attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure. Makes recommendations which may affect internal operations of the department as well as the operations of the schools and the District.
Light independent judgment is necessary. Assists in making recommendations toward the purchase of new equipment to better serve the internal operations of the department as well as the operations of the District.

Keen working knowledge needed in (Microsoft Suite, Quark Xpress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Fiery Command Workstation: impose, compose and setting up prepress files for digital copiers etc.) concepts to improve the effectiveness of the Department. Good computer skills, experience with mail sorting and postage meter machines is a plus, software programs (FlexMail, Pitney Bowes Connect / SendPro, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Suite).
NOTE: This is a grade 19, 225-day position that pays for experience up to a step 4.
