Position Summary
HIGHLIGHTS
The SUNY Geneseo Facilities Department is looking for a reliable and dedicated individual to join their team as a Maintenance Assistant.
In this position, you’ll be responsible for tasks in the mechanical, building construction, motor equipment, and electrical trades. These tasks may include:
+ routine maintenance
+ installation and repair tasks
+ assisting in troubleshooting systems
+ use of power tools, shop equipment, and measuring/testing instruments
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership ( NYS CSEA -P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA -P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math coursework, 45 hours of technical communications coursework, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading coursework. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA -P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.

Function 1: General Maintenance
+ Change lock combinations, install locks, clean, and repair them
+ Provide maintenance on equipment such as sprinkler systems, exit lights, generators, pumps, motors, air handlers, exhaust fans, make up air systems, VAV , hot water systems, building envelope, roof, and drain systems
+ Assist in painting and decorating work by performing interior and exterior painting not requiring fine finish or decorative treatment, staining and finishing wood and furniture, and painting equipment
+ Perform repairs to doors, walls, windows, window sashes, floors, stairs, railings, glass, furniture, masonry, locks and door hardware
+ Repair, rebuild, and assist in installing metal, slate, shingle, and built-up roofs
+ Operate machine tools including hand and portable power tools, shop equipment, and measuring and testing instruments
+ Repair, service, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment
+ Point up brick and stonework, patch plaster walls, set tiles, lay brick and stone, and finish concrete work

+ Perform routine replacement and repair of plumbing and steamfitting equipment

+ Replace fixtures that have drains or water, i.e., toilets and sinks
+ Unclog drains and pipes in new systems or repair in old systems
