State Hospital South (SHS) is hiring a Maintenance Craftsman Senior. Under the direction of the maintenance and operations supervisor, this position performs a variety of journeymen level work in general maintenance, operation and repair of equipment, grounds, building mechanical systems, and building architectural components. This position will also be assigned to work under the direction of journeyman - level craftsman on projects involving complex repairs, remodels, or new installation.

SHS is in beautiful Southeast Idaho, an area best known for Oregon Trail and Native American history, amazing fly fishing, towering mountain peaks with abundant wildlife and awe-inspiring geological sites. State Hospital South in Blackfoot provides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for Idaho’s adult citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living. State Hospital South includes 110 psychiatric adult beds and 42 skilled nursing beds. It also maintains a statewide program to restore the competency of criminal justice patients. The 42 skilled nursing beds in the Syringa Chalet Nursing Facility offer services to consumers with a history of behavioral or psychiatric illness.

 Any applicant offered employment in this position at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. • Good knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance; experience performing skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance repair; experience using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, and electrical work. Typically gained by completion of formal training (such as in a vocational technical school) covering all the following skills OR at least two (2) years of professional work experience performing all the following skills: skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance repair and using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, and electrical work.
• Some knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems maintenance. Typically gained by formal training/education specific to HVAC systems OR approximately 6 months of (supervised) professional work experience performing routine HVAC maintenance. Performing limited HVAC maintenance on an occasional basis or home maintenance is not qualifying. Experience must have been gained in a professional work capacity and must have been a primary responsibility of your job.
• Some knowledge of building codes. Typically gained by completion of formal training such as in a vocational technical school OR two years of work experience.
• Experience reading blueprints and schematics. Typically gained by completion of formal training such as in vocational technical school OR at least two years of work experience.
