Are you a skilled maintenance professional passionate about leading teams and keeping equipment running smoothly in a fast-paced environment? Highland Baking Company seeks a skilled Maintenance Engineer Supervisor to oversee the maintenance team in our Spartanburg, SC facility.
In this role, you will supervise a team of technicians and ensure that our ovens, proofers, spirals, and other critical equipment operate at peak performance. You'll also be responsible for maintaining preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting issues, mentoring the team, and ensuring that our bakery runs efficiently.
Job Summary:
The Maintenance Supervisor at our commercial bakery will oversee the maintenance, repair, and optimization of all bakery equipment. This role ensures that production runs smoothly by supervising a team of technicians and ensuring the proper maintenance of ovens, spiral freezers, proofers, and other equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical, electrical, and facility systems and leadership experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Schedule: 12 hours shifts | Weekends with two days off during the week.
Some Key Responsibilities include:
Supervision & Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of maintenance staff.
- Develop training programs to enhance the maintenance team's skills in areas such as equipment repair, troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
- Assign daily tasks, manage work schedules, and ensure the team meets productivity and goals.
Maintenance Operations:
- Ensure the continuous operation and optimal performance of all production equipment, including ovens, spiral freezers, proofers, and material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts).
- Implement a preventive maintenance program to minimize downtime and extend the life of bakery equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical failures in equipment, coordinating with internal teams or external contractors when necessary.
- Oversee the installation, modification, and commissioning of new equipment.
Facility & Contractor Oversight:
- Manage the maintenance and repair of the bakery facility, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
- Assist with external contractors for specialized repairs or facility projects, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.
Inventory & Budget Management:
- Assist with maintaining an accurate inventory of spare parts and ensure the availability of critical equipment to prevent production delays.
- Assist in managing the maintenance budget, including labor, parts, and contractor costs.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, food safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of equipment and the facility to identify potential hazards.
- Ensure staff follows safety procedures and properly uses personal protective equipment (PPE).
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance certification preferred.
- Experience: minimum of 5 years of experience in equipment maintenance, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or lead role, preferably in a bakery, food manufacturing, or industrial setting.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of bakery equipment maintenance, including ovens, proofers, and spirals.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management software (CMMS) and Microsoft Office.
- Certifications: OSHA or other safety certifications preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish, a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
- Must be available for on-call duties, emergency repairs, and weekend work.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces or at heights, as needed.
