PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Primary function is the fence and sign installation and repair. Under general supervision,
construct, install and repair various sizes and types of gates, fences and traffic signs.
Minimum Education:
A high school diploma or GED, preferred
Certification / License:
Valid Driver’s license required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Initiative in relation to the position, including job planning through job completion
Technical knowledge/skills to set string line, mix and pour concrete, set corner posts, lace and
stretch fence wire of various types
Ability to weld, build gates, install braces, tension bars, security fence and install fencing hardware
as required for the position
Demonstrated technical skills and knowledge to set and display traffic signs for proper visibility
and standards
Ability to read and interpret blueprints
Capable of assessing site conditions and initiating proper and logical steps to address
problems/situations
Detail Oriented
Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the
goals of the position
Operate tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Including but not limited to winch (come-along), wrenches & sockets,
drills, grinders, cutting torch, welder, tape measure, posthole digger, toro dingo, shovels, rakes,
etc.
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting;
work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching;
frequent driving; walking up and down stairs
Lifting: Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of
force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to repair and/or move equipment and
objects
Environment: Frequent changes in tasks; Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces;
frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures and all weather conditions, dust, high
noise level, vibration; exposure to chemicals, fuels and electrical hazards; work around machinery
with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours;
frequent districtwide travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
Regular attendance is an essential function
Minimum Experience:
Experience in mechanical, welding and/or carpentry (3 years is preferred)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Install and repair fences and traffic signs to specifications including welding, gate construction, concrete work, setting posts and installing new hardware.
- Estimate materials and procures the proper materials and supplies for completion of the work order/project.
- Identify and resolve various maintenance repair problems related to the fence craft.
- Operate hand/power tools and equipment required in the craft, using good safety practices.
- Maintain tools, equipment and supplies assigned.
- Provide effective communication with Principals, Department Heads and others in scheduling various maintenance repairs.
- Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
