The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating preventative and corrective maintenance activities within a manufacturing environment. This role is essential to ensure that all equipment and machinery are maintained effectively, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. The Maintenance Planner will work closely with maintenance and production teams to prioritize tasks and support continuous improvement of maintenance operations.
Responsibilities:Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
- Develop, plan, and schedule preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for all manufacturing equipment.
- Create and manage maintenance work orders, ensuring proper prioritization and scheduling to minimize production interruptions.
- Coordinate with production teams to determine the best times for scheduled maintenance based on production requirements.
Inventory & Resource Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records of spare parts, materials, and maintenance supplies to ensure availability and timely reordering.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for timely delivery of necessary parts and materials.
- Track and report on parts usage and maintenance costs to support budgeting efforts.
Work Order Management & Documentation
- Ensure that work orders are clearly documented and include all required resources, labor hours, and parts.
- Monitor work order completion, track maintenance activities, and generate reports on maintenance metrics (e.g., downtime, cost, compliance).
- Develop and maintain an efficient document management system for all maintenance-related documentation.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement maintenance best practices to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and optimize efficiency.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment failures to identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with the engineering team on equipment modifications and upgrades for improved reliability.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure that all maintenance work complies with company health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Participate in safety and compliance audits and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Train maintenance personnel on safety procedures, safe equipment handling, and emergency protocols.

Required Skills and Competencies
- Technical Knowledge
- Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and ability to work with scheduling and ERP software.
- Familiarity with maintenance strategies, troubleshooting techniques, and preventive maintenance best practices.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
- Ability to analyze equipment data, identify trends, and propose solutions to prevent equipment failures.
- Strong decision-making skills to prioritize tasks and resources effectively.
- Communication & Collaboration
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with maintenance teams, production supervisors, and management.
- Strong team player who can work collaboratively across departments and engage stakeholders in maintenance planning.
- Attention to Detail
- High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in work order documentation, inventory management, and scheduling.
Education and Experience
- Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering preferred, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred; relevant certifications (e.g., CMRP, PMP) a plus.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in maintenance planning within a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and industrial systems and processes, preferably in manufacturing.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
The ability to recognize and evaluate technical issues and limitations is required. The ability to define and manage expectations is critical. The ability to make sound decisions and actions is required.
