This position will be filled at either the Maintenance Support Specialist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
Work Control is a multidisciplinary group, providing deployed support to all Facility Operations Directorates (FODs) for maintenance planning, scheduling, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support. The MSS-Work Control group uses Integrated Work Management to plan, schedule, and perform work in a safe and secure manner.
The Maintenance Support Specialist (MSS) reports to the MSS-WC Work Management Center (WMC) Team Leader and TA55 Maintenance Manager and supports the Annual Maintenance Plan for the MSS-TA55 Organization. This position develops, monitors, and validates the accuracy and auditing of performance data, reports, and other statistical information, and supports the development and implementation of Standardized Preventative Maintenance plans and routines in line with company policy, procedures, engineering guidelines and maintenance strategy. This position also develops and maintains maintenance policies, processes, procedures and provides training in support of the conduct of maintenance program.

Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Business Processes & Systems: Full understanding of and experience with policy and strategy performance assurance, metrics, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement. Working knowledge of and experience with document control and records management. Working knowledge of business and maintenance program systems, quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures, and the legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting maintenance management.
Technical Competency: Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility maintenance and performance assurance. Skill to prepare and present reports.
Additional Job Requirements for Maintenance Support Specialist 3 Level:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Strategic Communication: Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of processes supporting the maintenance program to both technical and non-technical personnel. Ability to work independently under minimal direction.
Business Processes and Systems: In depth knowledge and experience with policy and strategy performance assurance, metrics, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement. In depth knowledge of and experience with document control and records management, and a clear understanding of work hazards, safety practice policies and procedures. In depth knowledge of business and maintenance program systems, quality assurance policies, practices, and procedures, and the legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting maintenance management.
Education/Experience Required at Maintenance Support Specialist 2 Level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience Required at Maintenance Support Specialist 3 Level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

- Develop and monitor auditing performance data, reports, and other statistical information to ensure compliance with safety, quality, budget and schedule. Maintain databases and other programs as needed for use in development of performance measurements and other status reports.
- Provide formal/informal training, and aid in evaluating and critiquing performance of training for facility maintenance personnel on maintenance programs.
- Assist in implementing related documentation systems and ensure compliance with all applicable document control and records management activities and security/compliance implications.
- Help evaluate processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.
- Provide issues management support, reviews and compiles data, and assists in the development of final management assessments and/or recommendations.
- May assist in conducting training for facility maintenance personnel on maintenance program and evaluate and critique performance.
- Assist in performing periodic reviews and assessments to ensure maintenance programs are implemented.
- Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to maintenance and quality assurance programs.
