Job Title: Maintenance Technician/Bus Driver
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Full-Time, Non-Exempt Position
General Summary:
The Maintenance Technician/Bus Driver is an essential member of the maintenance team, responsible for the upkeep, repair, and modification of school facilities, and driving school buses for field trips, athletic events, and other school-related activities. This role requires a blend of intermediate mechanical, building maintenance, and bus driving skills to ensure safe and effective operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Maintenance Duties:
- Perform maintenance on doors, locks, and hardware installations.
- Monitor HVAC systems.
- Repair and replace signage, assemble furniture, and install boards and screens.
- Conduct renovations in offices/classrooms (e.g., walls, doorways, fixtures).
- Replace ceiling tiles, paint, and repair drywall.
- Research parts for repairs, maintain inventory of filters, plumbing, door, and electrical supplies.
- Perform custodian duties and assist with event setups as directed.
- Assist with snow removal and ice control.
- Complete additional tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor to support Facilities Services.
Bus Driving Duties:
- Transport students to/from school activities, field trips, and athletic events.
- Conduct bus inspections before each trip (check gas, oil, water, etc.).
- Follow all traffic regulations and school procedures.
- Report safety incidents or accidents within 12 hours.
- Administer driving tests for employees using activity buses.
- Maintain a valid Maryland CDL with passenger endorsement.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of tools, mechanical systems, and building maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of safety precautions and the ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to multitask and work on a variety of maintenance projects.
- Basic proficiency in email, computers, and smartphones.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Significant experience in general maintenance.
- Valid Maryland driver's license and CDL or the ability to obtain one.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift/move up to 100 pounds occasionally, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring climbing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Work Conditions:
- Full-time, 12-month position, Monday through Friday (7:00 AM - 4:00 PM), with potential for overtime, including evenings and weekends.
- Expected to work on campus during assigned hours and be available for events or emergencies.
